Partick Thistle kicked off their 2025/26 season with a 4-1 victory over Edinburgh City in the opening game of our Premier Sports Cup Group campaign.
Goals from Cammy Logan, Robbie Crawford and Logan Chalmers along with an own goal from Robbie Mahon saw Thistle put the game out of sight before half time in the Group B clash.
With recent signing Tony Watt on the bench, Logan Chalmers was deployed in a more forward role as Stevie Lawless and Aidan Fitzpatrick supported him on the wings while Paddy Reading and Cammy Logan both made their first competitive Jags starts.
It was an energetic start in scorching conditions as the opening moments saw Edinburgh City on the attack, with Dan O’Reilly forced into a block to keep the scoreline goalless.
It would only take four minutes for Thistle to score the first goal of the 25/26 Scottish Football season. Stevie Lawless played the ball down the right, making space for debutant and former Edinburgh City player LOGAN who charged into the box and slotted past City goalkeeper Mark Weir to open his Thistle account 240 seconds into his competitive debut.
Four minutes later, it was 2-0. ROBBIE CRAWFORD grabbed a rare goal in red and yellow after his lovely backheel beat the keeper to double Thistle’s advantage.
The Jags showed no signs of letting up, continuing their relentless assault on the Edinburgh City goal. Aidan Fitzpatrick had the ball in the net on 21 minutes, but was ruled offside by what looked to be a wafer thin margin.
The away side would soon grab their third, as a calamitous error saw City keeper Weir slip as he attempted to collect a knock back from ROBBIE MAHON. Chalmers raced in to try and grab a goal, but the ball rolled in before he could get anything on it for an own goal.
It looked like the footballing gods were conspiring against Chalmers as he went on to have not one but two goals chalked off, falling foul of the offside flag on both occasions.
Six minutes before the break, Chalmers finally got on the scoresheet as Mark Wilson’s side extended their lead further. A terrific through ball from Fitzpatrick found CHALMERS, whose low drive found the net to make it 4-0.
City reduced the deficit in first half stoppage time as Jags keeper Lewis Budinauckas thrust a free kick from Jarvis into the air. Tiwi Daramola was the first to the ball, nodding it home to pull one back for City on the stroke of half time.

The opening five minutes of the second half saw the Jags try to grab a fifth, with Logan and then Chalmers (twice) coming close.
As the weather started to cool down though, the tempo of the game slowed, with very little in the way of action for vast swathes of the half.
Tony Watt came on for his debut in red and yellow, replacing Stevie Lawless for the final half hour.
Watt flashed a shot wide before Youth Academy graduate Thomas Horn made his senior competitive debut, replacing Aidan Fitzpatrick on the 77th minute.
On another day, Horn would have had a dream debut after Chalmers found him in from the right. Unfortunately for the youngster, a superb save from City keeper Weir denied him a goal in his first appearance and the game finished with no further goals.

Thistle rise to first place in Group B ahead of tomorrow’s clash between Stranraer and Ross County at the Eco Gen Stadium at Stair Park. Stranraer will then make the trip to the Wyre Stadium at Firhill on Tuesday, facing Thistle in the second round of League Cup group games.

Thistle start the 2025-2026 season with a comfortable Premier Sports Cup win. All the goals coming in the first half.
Into additional time at the end of the 90 minutes.
Thistle break from the corner and Chalmers finds Horn to his right. Horn is only denied a goal by an excellent save from Weir.
A debut appearance for Thomas Horn.
This game is getting played at a much reduced tempo. Lawson has a shot for City that goes high over the Thistle crossbar.
Water break. The sun has gone down and it is significantly cooler but it has been a hot day.
Thistle elect to go wide with the free kick and Lawless is fouled wide on the right touchline.
Thistle win a free kick deep inside the City half and have a chance to get the ball into the box.
Lawless threads through a ball for Chalmers. Chalmers this time though isn't able to take the ball round Weir and the chance is lost.
Chalmers is on the end of a high ball over the top. He takes a first time shot but the ball clears the crossbar.
Logan fizzes over a cross from the right that only needs a touch to produce a fifth Thistle goal.
The only change at the break is the floodlights coming on. Not entirely sure they are needed!
Thistle are in control at the break.
Four goals scored, albeit with a massive helping hand from the home side for one of them, three disallowed and one effort off the post.
City though do pull a goal back right on the stroke of half-time.
City pull a goal back. Budinauckas pushes the Jarvis free kick into the air and Daramola is the first to react and he nods home from close range.
City have a free kick close to the edge of the Thistle box near the right hand corner.
Into first half added time.
It counts this time. It's a lovely through ball from Fitzpatrick that finds Chalmers and he finds the corner of the net with a well placed low drive.
Chalmers is on the end of a well weighted through pass from Stanway and he touches the ball beyond Weir and into the net only for the offside flag to again deny Thistle a goal.
Chalmers lashes the ball home but the flag had long gone up for offside.
McArthur gets his head to the corner but his header clears the Thistle crossbar.
It is a third for Thistle and a disaster for City keeper who slips after the ball is knocked back to him by Mahon and the ball rolls into the net before Chalmers can get a touch to claim a goal for himself.
Fitzpatrick takes the ball round Weir and rolls the ball into the net but he is adjudged to have mistimed his run by a traction of a second and the flag is up for offside.
Thistle are looking sharp and a promising move is halted by a raised flag for offside.
O'Reilly heads the corner clear and Thistle try and counter through Reading who is pulled back at the halfway line.
It is 2-0 and is a neat back heel finish from Crawford that sees establish a two goal lead inside the first ten minutes.
A Lawless ball into the box is just missed by Chalmers and ends up bouncing off the City post.
Play swiftly moves to the other end and Thistle make an early breakthrough. It's good play from Lawless on the right that creates an opening for Logan who continued a forward run into the box and he marks his Thistle debut with a goal.
The first flurry of activity is around the Thistle goal but O'Reilly makes a good block inside the box.
On a sweltering hot night the 2025-2026 season gets underway with a Premier Sports Group B meeting with Edinburgh City.
As Mark Wilson oversees his first competitive fixture as Head Coach there Thistle debuts for Cammy Logan and paddy Reading while the most recent new signing, Tony Watt, starts his Thistle career on the substitute bench.
