Thistle's SPFL Trust Trophy campaign is offer barely before it got started. 

A poor display from start to finish ends in a 2-0 defeat that in truth could have been worse.

Nearly a third for Falkirk at the finish as a Lawal effort comes back off Sneddon's right-hand post. 

Mullen pushes a pass through to Lyon to his right, but Lyon leans back while shooting and the ball goes over the crossbar. 

Brownlie needs to clear from near the Thistle goal line as Falkirk look to add a third and cap a miserable night for The Jags. 

Mullen is nearly able to take advantage of a mistake in the Falkirk defence, but Martin saves with his feet. 

MacKenzie nearly has an immediate impact with a shot from the edge of the box that goes just narrowly wide of goal. 

You can't imagine there is any way back into the game for Thistle as Falkirk double their lead. A cross is drilled in from the left and Oliver provides the finish. 

Burrell is the next to have a go for Falkirk, but his effort is dragged well wide of Sneddon's right-hand post. 

Morrison cuts in from the left with Akinola trailing behind him, but his shot is on the rise and clears the bar. 

Turner clips the free kick into the box looking for the head of either Brownlie or Akinola, but the referee spots a push and awards Falkirk a free kick. 

Smith is fouled winning Thistle a free kick about 30 yards from the Falkirk goal. 

Smith is able to collect the ball after some hesitation in the Falkirk defence but can do no better than hit the side netting with his shot. 

Milne is quickly involved and drives forward but the move breaks down with Fitzpatrick at the corner of the Falkirk box. 

It's been poor stuff from Thistle in the first half and they are fortunate not to trail by more than just one goal at the interval. 

It did improve the longer the half went on but Thistle's threat to the Falkirk goal was minimal at most. 

Big improvement required after the break. 

Morrison sees a shot blocked after being set up by Burrell following some poor defending from Thistle. 

Mullen looks for a free kick as he cuts inside near the edge of the Falkirk box but when the whistle goes it's for a Falkirk free kick. 

Nesbitt side foots McCann's cross from the Falkirk left over the crossbar. 

Bannigan pushes a pass through from Weston who doesn't time his run and is flagged for offside. 

McMillan escapes a booking for his foul on Morrison. 

Martin is able to make a comfortable save from Brownlie's header following Turer's corner. It has been better from Thistle in the last 5 minutes or so but still not near the required standard. 

That's the first we've had of even a hint of a Thistle chance, but Mullen's header drops wide of the Falkirk goal. 

There is a real lull in the game at the moment. Thistle are, perhaps, seeing a shade more of the ball but not in any meaningful way as they continue to struggle to make any inroads towards the Falkirk goal. 

Thistle are unconvincing in clearing the corner and Donaldson has a shot from the edge of the box that strikes the top of the Thistle crossbar and goes over. 

It takes a good one handed save from Sneddon to push a Morrison shot over the crossbar. 

At the moment it looks only a matter of time before Falkirk add a second although on this occasion Morrison's shot goes high over the Thistle crossbar. 

Falkirk continue to look in the mood while Thistle continue to look uncertain and decidedly shaky. Sneddon can't hold a Nesbitt shot and although the rebound falls to Morrison he is, eventually, crowded out and doesn't manage a shot at goal. 

Early warnings have gone unheeded as Burrell opens the scoring with a flicked finished from 6 yards out following a pass inside from the right hand side. 

It's certainly Falkirk that are having the better of things in the opening minutes. Nesbitt is able to bring the ball down inside the Thistle box, but his shot clears the crossbar. 

Another chance for the home side. McCann crosses from the left but Morrison's header is too straight and lacking in power to truly trouble Sneddon. 

First chance comes the way of Falkirk and it should produce a goal. Thistle are opened up down the Falkirk right with the ball squared to McGuffie who looks set to score but sends his shot wide with the aid of a Thistle deflection. 

Thistle get the game underway and will defend the goal that the Thistle fans are behind in the first half. 

We can see from our seats that there are still some Thistle fans waiting to get into the ground. 

Ian McCall has rung the changes for tonight's SPFL Trust Trophy tie with League One Falkirk. 

There are no fewer than 8 changes to the starting eleven form last weekend's league fixture Cove Rangers. 

In come Jamie Sneddon, Darren Brownlie, Cammy Smith, Lee Hodson, Tony Weston, Tunji Akinola, Danny Mullen and Aidan Fitzpatrick. 

David Mitchell, Harry Milne, Stevie Lawless and Ross Docherty all start on the bench while Aaron Muirhead, Brian Graham, Kevin Holt and Scott Tiffoney all get the night off. 

That gives the likes of Ben Stanway, James Lyon, Zander MacKenzie, Ji Stevenson and Gallagher Lennon an opportunity to impress from the bench if called upon.
