92’Full Time Report

No goals but no lack of talking points.

Thistle twice struck the frame of the Falkirk goal in the first half firstly through Shea Gordon and then Zak Rudden.

Rudden was looking a real threat but the game was turned on the head when he was sent off after 63 minutes for what could only be dissent.

Thistle still looked a threat even wit a man short but they had to endure some late Falkirk pressure before securing a point which was the least they deserved.

92’Full Time
90’+01’Thistle Booking - James Penrice

90’

We're into injury time.

90’Falkirk substitution: Charlie Telfer replaces Blair Alston
90’Falkirk substitution: Akeel Francis replaces Conor Sammon

87’

Thistle have a chance on the break and men over but they lose momentum at the edge of the Falkirk box and the home side can regroup and deal with the threat.

84’Falkirk Booking - Ben Hall

83’

This time Falkirk work a short corner and when the ball is delivered into the box Dowds glances a header wide of target.

80’

McKenna is not too far away from being able to connect with a Penrice cross.

77’Falkirk substitution: Robbie Leitch replaces Josh Todd

76’

Thistle still look  threat when they come forward but with being a man short also vulnerable on the counter attack.

75’Falkirk corner from the left
71’Falkirk substitution: Anton Dowds replaces Gary Miller
71’Thistle substitution: Blair Lyons replaces Joe Cardle
70’Thistle corner from the right

Murray has a chance but his shot is deflected wide. Cardle takes the corner but it is cleared.

70’

Falkirk look for a penalty as Morrison goes down in the box but the referee is uninterested.

67’

Bannigan comes forward and although he finds Penrice on the overlap the flag goes up for offside.

66’

Morrison has the ball in the net for Falkirk but the referee spots a foul as he takes the ball round Wright.

63’Thistle Booking - Zak Rudden

That can only be for dissent. A huge shock to see the red card come out.

63’

Murray creates space at the edge of the box but Mutch is well placed to save.

61’

Rudden is making some really good runs in behind and round the sides of the Falkirk defence and although this time he is penalised for a foul he is clearly causing the home defence problems.

60’Falkirk corner from the right

Wright makes an excellent one handed save to turn Todd's shot round the post for  corner.

58’

Murray threads a pass through to Rudden who starts his run a fraction too early and although he places the ball into the back of the net the flag is already up for offside.

57’

Penrice is unable to get on the end of a Foster cut back as Thistle, who have been on the front foot for much of this half, pressure the Falkirk goal.

54’

Cardle's corner is headed clear from the edge of the 6 yard box.

54’Thistle corner from the left

47’

First chance of the second half comes Thistle's way. Rudden initially does well to hold the ball up for Murray who pushes the ball through to Penrice to his left. Penrice though can only shoot wide of Mutch's goal and the opportunity is lost.

45’

No additional changes from Thistle.

45’Kick-Off (2nd half)
45’+02’Half Time Report

The overhead conditions haven't made it easy for either side but it is still something of a surprise that we've got to the break without a goal from either team.

Falkirk have been the better of the two teams, especially in the opening stages of the half but have called Wright into much direct action.

Thistle though have been the closest to opening the scoring, striking the frame of the Falkirk twice inside two minutes. Shea Gordon, on as a sub for the injured Docherty, hitting the bar before Zac Rudden saw his shot hit the base of the post.

45’+02’Half-Time

45’

We're into first half injury time of which there should be a couple of minutes at least.

41’

Alston swings in a free kick from the Falkirk left that looks as if is going to deceive Wright and curl into the net but the Thistle keeper is able to recover and palm the ball to safety.

39’

The woodwork again denies Thistle. Rudden does really well to create an opening for himself and although his shot beats Mutch is strikes the base of the keeper's left hand post. So unlucky for the Thistle striker who looked to have done everything right.

37’

Thistle are a whisker away from taking the lead as after some good play down the left from Murray, Gordon sees his shot strike the Falkirk crossbar.

29’Thistle substitution: Shea Gordon replaces Ross Docherty

Sure enough, Docherty's afternoon is over.

29’

It doesn't look as if Docherty will be able to continue.

27’

We're going to have a break in play while Docherty receives some treatment.

24’Falkirk corner from the right

Falkirk probably should be in front. Morrison is able to take the ball past Wright but can't find the net with Foster scrambling the ball behind for a corner that McKenna clears at the back post.

20’

After some good possession from Thistle Cardle's cross from the right is far too close to Mutch.

15’

Patient build up from Thistle and Foster crosses from the left. The ball hangs a bit in the wind which looks as if it might give Rudden a chance but the flag goes up for offside,

11’

That's better from Thistle as Cardle crosses from the right. Penrice can't reach it though with the referee spotting n infringement against the Thistle player in any case.

09’

Kelly takes the corner for Falkirk. It finds Alston an although he manages to get a shot away it is comfortably wide of the Thistle goal.

08’Falkirk corner from the left

07’

Cardle is able to deliver a cross into the Falkirk box but it is an easy claim for Mutch. It is the home side that has the better start to this game.

04’

Gomis is able to get his head to another ball into the Thistle box, this time following a cross from Sammon , but his header doesn't threaten the Thistle goal.

03’

Kelly's cross fizzes across the face of the Thistle goal.

01’

As expected McKenna is occupying the right back role vacated by the injured Williamson while Rudden starts up top against his former team.

00’

Chance for Falkirk in the opening seconds of the game. A cross comes over ffom the Falkirk right and Gomis stoops to reach it with his head but the ball slides wide of Wright's right hand pot.

00’

Thistle get the game underway.

00’Kick-Off

00’Introduction

Ian McCall's team selection for this afternoon's fixture with Falkirk shows two changes from the side that went down to defeat against Peterhead last time out.

Ryan Williamson and Brian Graham both miss out through injury with their places in the side going to Ciaran McKenna and Zak Rudden who makes his first start of the season.

Young Gospel Ocholi takes up a place on the Thistle bench for the very first time.

There are a few ex Thistle players in the Falkirk side. Ben Hall, Gary Miller and Conor Sammon all included in their starting eleven.

There is  stiff breeze at the Falkirk Stadium which may make things tricky for two sides hoping to return to winning ways after suffering defeats last weekend.
