🆚 Our Opponents: Glasgow City

Glasgow City have had a good season so far as they sit 3rd in the table with 59 points, 7 points off Rangers in top position. The reigning champions will be hoping to bounce back immediately after suffering a heavy defeat to Rangers at Broadwood on Sunday.

Glasgow City’s squad has many talented individuals who could all make an impact on the game in a variety of ways. A real mixture of youth and experience, Leanne Ross’ outfit contains regular internationalists such as last season’s top scorer Lauren Davidson, Fiona Brown and Lee Gibson while the likes of Lisa Forrest consistently makes an impact for Scotland at under 19s level.

Ava Easdon has spent the season at Petershill on loan from Glasgow City however just this week was recalled on an emergency basis meaning in a twist of fate could play against Partick Thistle in Wednesday’s matchup.

📈Thistle so far

We welcomed Celtic to Petershill knowing it would once again be a tough fixture. Having suffered heavy defeat a few weeks prior, we knew they’d come swinging from the start.

The Jags were unfortunate to suffer a few injuries as well heading into this match. Skipper Demi Falconer remained out having struggled for the past few weeks while Shona Cowan also missed the matchday squad once more due to her injury problems.

These problems saw Brian Graham deploy an unorthodox approach with his 5-4-1 formation that saw top scorer Cara Henderson swap shot scoring for shot stopping as she was slotted into centre back alongside the ever versatile Linzi Taylor and Jenna Ferguson.

Celtic wouldn’t take long before they struck first as Chloe Craig whipped in a deep ball into the box and Caitlin Hayes, a player who strikes against the Jags often, put the ball past Megan Cunningham and into the back of the net. Natasha Flint capitalised on a mistake in the box to make it two while

American striker Murphy Agnew scored the hoops’ 3rd a couple minutes later. Celtic would see the half off with a 4th as Amy Gallagher played a brilliant pass through the defence that saw Natasha Flint would round Megan Cunningham for her 2nd of the match. Brian Graham changed back to a 4 at the back heading into the second half which saw the Jags become more free flowing and attempt to create more. However, Murphy Agnew’s second of the match would eventually make it 5-0 where the game would finish in the end. No time to dwell on the match however as our second match against the big 3 approaches against Glasgow City on Wednesday.

Strong followings from the Red and yellow army have helped our girls out a lot this season. It would be great to see as many of you as possible for this Peasy Derby and a game under the floodlights. Remember all PTW season tickets go free to this away match.

🗞 Team News

Some late fitness tests will be assessed by the physio going into this one.
There could be a touch of rotation within the squad could be seen as a result of the tight schedule in order to avoid further injuries.

With that being said, it will be up to the gaffer and the rest of the management team to field their best possible side heading into this fixture as we travel “away” for the Peasy derby.
