It's a rare defeat for Champions Thistle as Montrose wait anxiously for confirmation that they have pipped Falkirk to the final play-off spot.
Deep into injury time and Montrose have a free kick midway inside the Thistle half. They make a mess if it and Thistle might have ne last chance to get the ball forward.
Montrose look to have snatched the points. McLean drills in a low cross that Ballantyne fires home from close range.
Murray's cross hits the junction of bar and post and somehow doesn't drop into the net.
Thistle should be in front. Fleming does well to save Murray's initial effort but the ball rolls back to Murray who slides the ball wide rather into the far corner of the nt.
Murray takes a quick free kick to Tiffoney who sends the ball into a hedge outside the ground.
Cardle's corner is cleared.
Great save from Fleming to deny MacIver who had been set up by clever play from Rudden.
Thistle are never able to properly clear the ball from the edge of their box but when Montrose do manage a shot Dillon's effort is way too high.
Milne's shot deflects off a Thistle defender but Wright gets his body behind the ball to complete a routine save.
Masson shoots from distance but it is an easy save for Wright to make.
Webster isn't too far away with a shot from the edge of the box.
Young James Lyon is at the centre of the second Thistle equaliser. With the ball at his feet he shows poise and confidence as he strides forward before finding Cardle with a perfectly weighted pass. Cardle provides the finish that Lyon's play deserved.
McLean has space in front of him after he collects a Ballantyne pass. He decides to shoot for goal and sends his shot over the Thistle crossbar.
A long throw comes into the Thistle box and McLean's header goes wide.
Cardle whips over a great cross from the left. MacIver either doesn't make contacr or gets the merest of flicks to the ball but at any rate the ball goes wide.
Lyon picks up the ball in midfield and finds Reilly to his right. Reilly shoots but Fleming makes an easy save.
Thistle trail by two goals to one to an eager Montrose side at half time.
Neither defence has looked overly secure, the opening Montrose goal a real gift, and you suspect that there are more goals to come.
Gordon does really well to get the ball out to Cardle to his left. Cradle turns to get the ball onto his right foot and curls a shot just wide of the far post.
MacIver manages a shot from the edge of the box but his low effort doesn't trouble Fleming.
The home side are back in front. McLean does well to find space for a shot inside the box and it is an excellent finish across Wright and into the corner of the net.
A Cardle shot is half blocked and spins into the path of MacIver but his header is poor and Fleming gathers.
Penrice takes the free kick and his low effort evades the wall but there isn't enough pace on his shot to trouble Fleming.
Lyons is fouled and Thistle will have a free kick near the right hand corner of the Montrose box.
Montrose have a good chance to almost immediately regain their lead but Ballantyne drags a shot wide for a good position inside the Thistle box.
Thistle are back on level terms and Charlie Reilly deserves a lot of credit for this one. His run takes him deep into the Montrose box. He is denied what would have been an excellent goal by a fine Fleming save. Fleming saves MacIver's effort from the rebound too but at the second time of asking MacIver slams the ball home.
Fleming comes off his line to make a comfortable catch from Cardle's corner.
Rennie tries his luck from distance again. This time though his effort drifts well wide of target.
Montrose have their tails up and they have another chance when Milne shoots over the bar.
It's a moment to forget for Kieran Wright he lets a Rennie shot slip through his arms and if not into the back of the net then certainly well over the line.
Cardle's corner is flicked on and reaches Penrice but he leans back as he shoots ad sends the ball over the crossbar.
McLean lifts a cross to the back post where Milne can't quite connect with the ball.
Montrose have the ball at the left hand corner of the Thistle box but Niang makes a well timed challenge to remove any danger.
MacIver flicks the ball back to Gordon who sees his shot blocked. Thistle starting to get into their stride after a slow start.
Great chance for Thistle. Lyons gathers a through ball and takes the ball round Fleming. His touch takes him to the bye line where the ball does look to go out. There is no flag though and play continues but Lyons can't squeeze the ball home.
Early chance for the home side as the ball sits up nicely for Ballantyne at the edge of the box but his shot flies straight into the arms of Wright.
After being given a guard of honour onto the pitch from the home side, Thistle kick the game off.
It's a sunny but breezy and distinctly cool evening at Links Park as Thistle round off a triumphant League One campaign.
Thistle may have clinched the title on Thursday evening but tonight's match is still a vital one with the home side still harbouring hopes of claiming the final play-off position albeit they require a favour from Airdrie as well as victory tonight.
As expected Ian McCall has made significant changes to his side with those players that have been carrying injuries over the hectic period given a well deserved night off.
It is still a strong line-up as befitting the potential importance of the match to both Montrose and Falkirk.
