💻️Highlights and reaction post match
Montrose come into this fixture having suffered 3 losses on the bounce yet all to full time clubs in the form of Hibs and Celtic, twice. Having finished 9th last season, Craig Feroz knows his side will have to get that place again should they hope to remain an SWPL1 side next season as 3 teams will be automatically relegated this season. They currently sit 9th with 6 points.
Montrose lost a few key players at the end of last season with Charlotte Gammie, Aimee Ridgewell and Tammy Harkin all calling time on their careers while goalie Beth mowatt made the move to Dundee United. The club have made a few signings over the summer to reinforce the core of their club that remained with Maisy Stewart arriving from Celtic, Erin Henderson making the switch from Spartans and Rowena Armitage linking up from Hibs.
Montrose have definitely improved over the course of the last two seasons. They put up great performances against the Jags in both the league and cup last season therefore it will take a good performance from Brian Graham’s side to bring all 3 points back to Glasgow.
Thistle made the move back to Kirky for another match as we welcomed a strong Hearts side to our temporary home. Brian Graham had a clear plan going into the game as he implemented a system to try and stop Hearts press.
Thistle played well in the first half with the biggest chances coming through Lucy Sinclair and Tiree Burchill but we couldn’t find the back of the net. Jeni Currie also got called into action and kept the Hearts attack at bay.
However, despite our impressive performance, a ball from Waldie found Bayley Hutchison where last season’s league top scorer converted. Just a few minutes later, Eilidh Shore headed one home from a corner kick as both former Aberdeen players entered the scoresheet. Come the 2nd half, a brilliant cross from the right hand side came through where Jackie Richards beat Caley Gibb to the header making it 3-0 and saw all 3 points leave with the visitors.
Strong Followings from the Red and Yellow army helped our girls massively last season and this season alike. A trip down the A9 is on the cards for this match against Montrose and we’d love to see as many of the Red and yellow army as possible.
Clare Docherty is back following her suspension against Hearts however injuries rule Rachel Donaldson, Courtney Stewart and Kodie Hay out of this tie.
With that being said, it will be up to the gaffer and the rest of the management team to field the best possible side heading into this fixture with a game against Montrose.
