Montrose come into this fixture knowing they’ll need to keep their unbeaten mentality against Thistle as the threat of relegation looms over their head. Currently sitting 10th and in the final relegation spot, they sit 3 points behind Spartans in the safety spot.
Montrose have struggled lately suffering heavy defeats to Glasgow City and Rangers but did end the regular campaign with a 3-1 win away to Dundee United. They know they’ll need to take as much positives as they can as they face a Thistle squad out to put right the two draws between the sides so far this season.
Thistle made the trip to Ochilview to face Queen’s Park in the final pre-split game in a match to set the tone heading into the next part of the season.
It was a game that saw a change of shape as a way to try something new. A 451 was the mindset for the girls with players in different positions than usual. Georgia Gray played in the centre of defence with Cheryl’s McCulloch while Tiree Burchill was deeper than usual as part of the midfield.
The game was a struggle for the most part as nothing seemed to click for either side. Chances came and gone for both sides but nobody could find the net in the first half.
Second half subs of Lucy Sinclair, Hannah Robinson and a returning Cara Henderson tried to spark some life into Thistle but it wasn’t to be and a goalless draw was the outcome, an outcome the players and staff were ultimately disappointed in.
Strong Followings from the Red and Yellow army have helped our girls massively. A trip down the A9 is on the cards for this match against Montrose and we’d love to see as many of the Red and yellow army as possible for our first match in the split.
A week off has allowed the team to regroup and recharge heading into this one. Nearly a full squad is expected for this game and it could see the likes of Cara Henderson gain more minutes following her return to the side.
With that being said, it will be up to the gaffer and the rest of the management team to field the best possible side heading into this fixture with a game against Montrose.
