Match Preview

Motherwell WFC v Partick Thistle WFC – 21st September 2025

An important clash awaits as Partick Thistle travel to Lanarkshire to face Motherwell. The outcome of this fixture could prove pivotal in the battle for the top six.

The Jags were defeated in their last outing against Rangers, despite an encouraging performance and leading for a large period of the match.

Both sides have had a tough start to the season, picking up one win from a possible five.

Assistant coach Craig Potter and midfielder Erin Rennie spoke ahead of Sunday’s match, highlighting the importance it could play further into the season.

Potter stated, “I think the performance was good last week for a spell, so really just trying to build on that. We know how important Sunday’s game is in terms of the grand scale of the league, Motherwell being a team with similar aspirations to us.

“It is a game we are really looking forward to. I think the spirits are pretty good; we have had two decent performances in a row. I think we are in a good way and looking to put in a good performance away from home”.

Midfielder and Thistle player of the month winner Erin Rennie highlighted the importance of bringing their game to Lanarkshire.

“Motherwell are a good side, they have always been a good side, the past few years. But as I said, we are looking to play our game and hopefully come out on top”.

Since joining the club in the summer from Spartans, Rennie has already made an impact, providing the match-winning goal away in Hamilton on her debut.

Reflecting on her season so far, and having played a pivotal role in the opening fixtures, Rennie spoke about how she has found life at her new club.

“I have been really enjoying it. I’ve been getting a lot of minutes. So yes. I have been enjoying it, coming in with the girls. They make it easier to kind of stand out.

“I’m just going to try to keep it up. Keep the performances up and see how it goes.

The last time the two sides met was in Petershill, where the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Kick off is 4:00pm at K-Park in East Kilbride.
