So Thistle progress to the next round. It was a comfortable afternoon for the home side but, in truth, it should have been much more so. James Stokes was incredibly creative from midfield but, it’s safe to say, he left his shooting boots at home. Sharp, crisp passing created numerous chances for Thistle and it could have been six or seven.

A solid display though and Scott MacKenzie should be pleased with the performance and more so with securing a spot in the next round.

A great ball across the box finds McLaughlin in acres of space, 10 yards out. The Jags number nine takes his time, picks his spot and slips it past the keeper, low to his left. 4-1 to the Jags.

Goal! No, the referee hasn't given it. A rifle of a shot from McLaughlin smashes off the underside of the bar and looked to be well over the line but not given by the ref so it stays 3-1.

That deserved a goal for Thistle. More excellent play from Tistle down the left but James Stokes' strike is just wide of the post.

McCarthy picks up a careless caution for kicking the ball away having been called offside.

And East Kilbride pull one back after some clumsy defending by the home side.

Final sub for East Kilbride after a lengthy stopage for a nasty looking injury.

Short corner taken quickly but it comes to nothing.

Should have been four for the Jags as they breakl in numbers. James Stokes hits a shot from the edge of the box which is well saved by the keeper and the loose ball is cleared for a corner before Lamont can get to it.

A wondeful goal for Thistle. Lamont feeds Penrice with a fantastic pass down the line. Penrice leaves the Est Kilbride full back for dead and cuts a perfect ball back to Wilson who finishes high and off the underside of the bar to make it 3-0 to Thistle.

The two Stokes brothers link up well down the right to create a decent chance, this time for Ian, but his shot is blocked.

Lamont whips a free kick in from wide on the right. It lands for James Stokes again but his shot is held, at the second time of asking by EK keeper, Melrose.

Another one on one for James Stokes but the keeper again comes out sharp to smother. Good individual work from Stokes to craft the chance in the first place though.

A superb tackle in midfield from Docherty turns defence into attack for Thistle. Such a shame Thistle couldn't capitalise.

Great chace for Thistle as Penrice drills a ball across the face of goal and it clearly had the keeper worrid as he parried it into the path of Callum Wilson who turns and puts it back across the box for McLaughlin whose shot goes over the bar.

A good delivery but it's headed well over the bar.

A half that started in stuffy fashion for both sides has seen the home team really take control as the game has progressed. Some excellent build up play in the final third has probably deserved a bit more but, make no mistake, Thistle are definitely in charge here.

Thistle really turning the screw here and Callum Wilson is at the centre of it again with some fantastic play at the edge of the box. The eventual shot doesnt worry the EK keeper though.

The corner is taken short before being played into the box but the the shot, hit on the half volley by James Stokes ricochets wide of the goal for a by kick.

Great chance for Thistle as the ball is played through to James Stokes who finds himself with only the keeper to beat. Stokes delays his shot though and the keeper smothers.

East Kilbride win a corner following an excellent ball into the box which the Jags defence don't deal with properly. The corner comes to nothing though.

McLaughlin has a shot from the edge of the box but it's well held by the keeper.

And the curse fo the commentator strikes for East Kilbride as Thistle go up the other end and extend their league. Some great short passing interplay at the edge of the box finds Callum Wilson in acres of space and he can pick his spot, slotting the ball low to the keeper's right.

East Kilbride making their presence felt with a number of good balls into the box. Thistle just need to be careful here.

A sublime free kick from Lamont is over the wall and drops into the top corner of the East Kilbride net.

A decent Penrice corner is cleared but only as far as the edge of the box. McLaughlin winds up and hits a good shot which is well saved by the East Kilbride keeper.

Better play from Thistle as a smarrt one two sees James Stokes find some space on the edge of his box. His cross is dangerous but ends up flicked out for a corner.

Very slack at the back byt Thistle. Cullen receives the ball under pressure and gets himself out of trouble with a smart Cruyff turn but his pass out is poor and puts McMullin into pressure. The centre back's clearance is charged down and Cullen's second clearance almost went straight back to East Kilbride and would have done had it not been for some sharp thinking by Penrice.

First corner of the game goes to Thistle. It's a poor one though and is cleared at the front post.

Thistle have a free kick, just ovewr 20 yards from goal. Docherty will hit it but it goes a yard over the bar.

Great play by Thistle, Ian Stokes back heels the ball to Lamont on the edge of the area wide on the right and Lamont whips a lovely cross in which is only just flicked away by the East Kilbride centre back.

The Jags starting to warm into this game now.

Thistle have a free kick just wide of the EK box. The ball in is a good one but McCarthy's header is collected by Melrose.

First shot of the game falls to Thistle, as Michael McMullin hits a low powerful shot from 30 yards. Although well struck, the centre back's shot goes a yard or so wide to the keeper's left.

It has been a scrappy start here at Firhill with no chances of any description for either side.
