A fine first half performance from Partick Thistle was not quite enough to see off Airdrieonians at The Wyre Stadium at Firhill with the 90 minutes finishing tied at 1-1.
The interim management team of Brian Graham and Mark Wilson made five changes to the starting line-up for the visit of The Diamonds.
Graham returned in his role as striker and captain with Lewis Budinauckas making a quick-fire debut on-loan following his loan move from Rangers.
Josh Reid made his starting debut with Robbie Crawford and Kyle Turner also in from the kick-off with Daniel Mackay back on the bench.
After a minutes’ applause to mark the life and service of club scout Bobby Dinnie MBE, Stuart Bannigan kicked off with referee Dickinson quickly speaking to Turner for a robust challenge.
The Jags adopted a 4-1-4-1 formation with Budinauckas getting his first touch with a couple of minutes played as he took a free-kick following on offside.
On seven minutes Budinauckas made his first save as leapt high to clutch a swerving free-kick from the visiting Adam Frizzell.
Shortly afterwards Kanayo Megwa did well to get forward on the right and send a cross into the box that was cleared with the full-back sent crashing to the ground on 12 minutes when he tried to create danger again,
Logan Chalmers took the resultant free-kick which the Airdrie defence headed clear this time.
With quarter of an hour gone the visitors forced two corners however it was Thistle that scored the opener!
The second dead ball was long and when it was crossed back into the home box it was cleared into the path of Stuart Bannigan who charged forward and found Megwa galloping to his left. The defender took the ball to 20 yards from the Airdrie goal before sliding a pass into the path of GRAHAM who drilled into the far corner.
The hosts had their tails up and Dan O’Reilly and Chalmers both had efforts on Kieran Wright’s goal with O’Reilly firing just over and the shot-stopper denying Chalmers.
After Frizzell had fired past the home goal with half an hour played Thistle moved the play up to the other end with Chalmers crowded out just as he was away to shoot.
Eight minutes from the break Thistle came close twice within seconds as Stanway sent a low diagonal shot against the inside of a post with Turner denied by the outstretched hand of Wright when he drilled in a rebound.
Half time – Partick Thistle 1 Airdrieonians 0
O’Reilly picked up a yellow card early into the restart for a foul 25 yards out however a mix-up by the visitors when it was taken ensured there was no danger created.
On 52 minutes Megwa showed his attacking qualities again with a run and cross that was just an inch away from being turned in at the back post by Turner.
Two minutes later, with Bannigan off the pitch after getting treatment, Airdrie equalised when a lightning break saw Ben Wilson turn in a Frizzell cross from six yards.
Referee Dickinson surprised many just before the hour mark when he failed to point to the spot when Turner intercepted a headed pass-back and looked to skip around Wright only to crash to the ground.
Three minutes later Stanway glanced a header just wide as Thistle put the disappointment of not being awarded a penalty.
Matthew Falconer came on to make his debut on 74 minutes with the home grown youngster replacing Crawford.
As the final ten minutes approached Josh Reid stood strong to block a Wilson 20 yarder after another breakaway from Airdrie.
Megwa started another attack on 82 minutes with a nice turn, run and pass that found Chalmers who was crowded out as looked to swing over a cross.
Substitute Terry Ablade’s pace won Thistle a foul in injury time however no danger came from it and Thistle had to settle for a draw.

It finishes 1-1, a result that doesn't really suit either side.
Truth be told neither looked like winning the game after Airdrie's second half equaliser.
O'Reilly makes a really important block inside the Thistle box.
Into added time at the end of the 90 minutes.
Man of the Match: Logan Chalmers
Budinauckas claws the corner away.
Falconer crosses but Wright is there to collect. Frustration mounting as we near the 90 minute mark.
Thistle clear the corner.
Fitzpatrick takes the free kick. It's half cleared allowing O'Reilly to attack the ball but his header drops on the top of the net.
Crawford is fouled and Thistle will get a chance to get the ball in the box from the free kick on the left.
Chalmers touches the ball back to Graham but he lifts his shot from outside the box over the crossbar.
Wright gets a strong fist to the Chalmers corner. Thistle keep the pressure on the Airdrie goal but can't fashion an opening.
Wilson flicks a MacDonald cross goalward but Budinauckas is there to save.
McBeth works the ball to Megwa to his right. Megwa shoots but can't keep the ball down and it goes over the crossbar.
Thistle are close to going back in front. Chalmers finds Megwa on the overlap and his cross is headed just wide by Stanway.
Wright looks to pull Turner down but there is no penalty.
The wall does its job blocking Frizzell's free kick.
Airdrie have a free kick almost right on the edge of the Thistle box. Another step and that was a penalty.
We're level once more as Wilson's tidy finish makes it 1-1.
Bannigan has to go off for some treatment leaving Thistle with just ten men.
Chalmers finds Megwa who plays a teasing cross across the 6 yard box that Crawford can't quite manage to get on the end of.
Well, that might have been the worst free kick I've ever seen.
Airdrie free kick about 25 yards from the Thistle goal.
No changes from Thistle at the break.
Brian Graham's goal is enough to give Thistle a half-time lead.
Ben Stanway was close to making it 2-0 with a shot that came off the inside of the post.
Into first half added time.
Airdrie try to work a short corner but Turner makes an important tackle to prevent a cross coming over.
Hancock gets the ball over the Thistle wall but there is no real power in his shot and Budinauckas makes a comfortable save.
Airdrie free kick within range of the Thistle goal in a central position.
There's just too much pace on Graham's pass looking for the run of Crawford and Wright collects.
And Thistle are close again, this time a Chalmers shot is saved by Wright. Stanway's follow up is also saved.
So close to a second. Chalmers neat pass picks out Stanway and his shot strikes the inside of the post and bounces out.
It's casual from Thistle at the edge of their own box and a low shot skids wide of Budinauckas' left hand post.
Stanway does well to win the ball and play open up in front of him. He tries to find the net with a curling effort but doesn't get enough bend on it and it goes out for a goal kick at the far post.
An eager Chalmers chases a ball deep into the Airdrie box. He gets to it before it goes out for a goal kick but can do little more than lift the ball towards Wright atb his front post.
Chalmers looks in the mood and he thumps in a shot that Wright is happy to get his body behind and cling on to.
It's a really good corner from Chalmers that is clawed away from goal. O'Reilly is able to collect, turns back towards goal but lifts his shot over the bar.
Thistle take the lead. Airdrie are hit on the counter attack. Ity's clever play from Bannigan who ignores an offside Chalmers and finds Megwa on the left. The ball breaks tp Graham inside the box, he takes a touch before drilling as low shot into the net.
A promising Thistle attack is halted by a raised flag for offside.
The Chalmers free kick is headed clear.
Megwa is fouled earning Thistle a free kick on the right touchline.
A teasing cross from Stanway just evades Graham at the back post.
The free kick goes over the Thistle wall but Budinauckas clings on to the ball underneath his crossbar. His first test passed.
Airdrie have a free kick at the edge of the Thistle box near the right hand corner. Decent angle for a shot.
It's been a frantic opening and Crawford is a shade fortunate to escape a yellow card for late challenge.
Thistle kick off and are shooting towards the John Lambie Stand in the first half.
It's been a difficult week at Firhill but focus is now firmly on trying to get three points this afternoon against Airdrie as Brian Graham and Mark Wilson take interim charge.
There is a debut for new loan signing Lewis Budinauckas while Josh Reid starts for the first time since signing on loan from Ross County.
Brian Graham returns to action following a period of suspension while there is also a start for Ben Stanway.
