45’+04’Half Time Report

Thistle deservedly lead at the break and there has been much to be impressed with in that first half display.

There's just been one goal though and there have been a few, particularly as the half wore on, uncomfortable moments too.

00’Kick-Off

00’Introduction

It's a blustery Firhill and it remains to be seen if Storm Amy will have any impact on the 90 minutes to come as Thistle aim to record a sixth straight league win with 4th place Arbroath the visitors to Maryhill.

Head Coach Mark Wilson has made two changes to the side that started against Queen's Park on Tuesday night.

Paddy Reading and Oisin Smyth both missed that game but both are fit and return to the starting eleven.

Cammy Logan and Ben Stanway are the unlucky duo who drop to the bench for this one where they are joined by new loan signing Sean McArdle.

Match Report

Partick Thistle v Arbroath – 4th October 2025

Partick Thistle shared the spoils at the Wyre Stadium at Firhill today, with a 1-1 draw against Arbroath in the William Hill Scottish Championship.

Thistle were reunited with the Angus side after a season apart which saw Arbroath bounce straight back up from League 1 after relegation the season prior.

The Red Lichties have continued the good form which saw them win the League 1 title last season, coming into this fixture fourth in the table.

Thistle were in similarly good form, undefeated since the start of August, having won their previous five league games, sitting in second place.

There was a familiar face in the opposition line-up, with two spell Jag Aaron Muirhead making his return to Firhill after departing the club in the summer following a loan spell with the Gayfield men at the end of last season.

Paddy Reading and Oisin Smyth returned to the starting line-up for Thistle, having missed our gritty 1-0 win over Queen’s Park in the week. Cammy Logan and Ben Stanway dropped to the bench to accommodate them.

Joining them on the bench was Sean McArdle, getting his first taste of Firhill after signing from Celtic on a season-long loan deal in the week.

Thistle have cultivated a reputation this season for high intensity starts to games, and early goals. Today was no different, with Logan Chalmers giving them the lead on six minutes.

Some excellent link-up play between Aidan Fitzpatrick and Tony Watt, enabled Fitzy to lay off a pass for CHALMERS on the right hand side of the penalty area.

Chalmers then curled his first time shot past Arbroath keeper Aidan McAdams to put the Jags into the lead in style.

Thistle continued to play their fearless brand of football in search of a second, peppering the Arbroath box with chance after chance.

McAdams was working overtime to keep the score down, in particular, making a great save from Reading’s long range effort on 15 minutes.

On 28 minutes, the Arbroath shot-stopper looked to be clipped by the boot of Robbie Crawford, and went down in considerable pain.

After several minutes of treatment from both sides’ physio team, McAdams was able to shake it off and resume play.

The last 10/15 minutes of the half saw both teams find it difficult to create chances in the swirling wind, with the game feeling more like it was taking place at Costa Del Gayfield than it did Maryhill.

Half Time – Partick Thistle 1 Arbroath 0

Despite leading Thistle weren’t out of the woods yet though, as Arbroath started to find their way into the game in the second half.

Arbroath fired a few warning shots across the bows before Finlay Marshall looked poised to equalise on 57 minutes, but the midfielder struck his effort wide.

He would make no mistake four minutes later, as Arbroath made it 1-1. The ball flashed across the home box and when Josh Clarke failed to gather Marshall was there to pounce and hit home for 1-1.

The goal was the wake-up call Thistle needed and substitute Kyle Turner forced McAdams into two great saves to keep it level.

The visitors were also out to get in front and Clarke showed his class as he pushed away Nikolay Todorov’s header and tipped over a shot from Jacob McIntyre.

Thistle were to finish the stronger and Alex Samuel, who had looked lively after coming on was unlucky to not score after he found himself with a point blank header a few yards out, but McAdams managed to divert it round the post.

Chalmers had an opening seven minutes from time when a gorgeous ball from Stevie Lawless found him at the back post eight yards out.

However, he was unable to get the ball under his spell and McAdams was able to get the ball in his grasp.

Despite the pressure late on, Thistle were unable to make the breakthrough, with Dan O’Reilly having a header cleared off the line moments before time.

Mark Wilson’s men had to settle for a point on a day where leaders St Johnstone also dropped points at home to Ayr and third placed Raith Rovers were defeated away to Ross County.
