Brian Graham's header in the third minute of injury time rescues a point for Thistle who dominated almost the entire game but looked set to suffer a hugely damaging defeat when Murray fired Dunfermline into a lead they scarcely merited.
It's not the three points though that Thistle badly required.
Fon Williams can't claim Cole's corner and when the ball is returned into the box after a defender clears Graham is there to rescue a point with a well -placed header.
Thistle look in vain for a penalty as Gordon's shot hits a defender.
The 90 minutes have come and gone. It's now a matter how much additional time the referee decides to play but Thistle don't look remotely like scoring.
The referee spots a push as Cole's corner comes over and Dunfermline have a free kick.
Thistle have a free kick deep inside the Dunfermline half.
Dunfermline were in no hurry at 0-0 in the first half and they've slowed down even more.
Crowd: 2,078
Fon Williams holds onto a low drive from Zanatta.
Thistle have a great chance to immediately draw level but Gordon doesn't get enough on his shot.
It's a terrible corner that somehow finds its way to the feet of Murray who makes the most of his opportunity and fires a shot high past Fox.
Cole's corner goes near post where Graham can't get enough on the ball to threaten the Dunfermline goal.
Rudden goes down in the box but if he's looking for a penalty it's never going to come for that.
Cole takes the fee kick this time as well but can do no better than hit the wall.
Penrice is fouled about a yard outside the box, left of centre. Cole nearly scored from here last Tuesday.
Dunfermline are starting to look a threat on the break and Thistle are left looking a little exposed but Mayo is able to snuff out any danger.
Rudden is fouled and Thistle have a free kick just in from the right touchline.
Fon Williams dives full length to push away Cole's shot. Neither Penrice nor Rudden can gather the loose ball and another Thistle chance isn't converted into a goal.
It's taken nearly 55 minutes but Dunfermline finally have a chance and they are a whisker away from taking the lead but Thomas' effort is just wide with Fox looking beaten.
Dunfermline break after Cole's corner is cleared but Bannigan is tracking back to prevent the ball from finding Afolabi in space and in behind the Thistle defence.
Cole has a shooting chance right at the start of the half but its a wild effort that goes well wide.
Thistle have dominated virtually the whole of the first 45 minutes but are tied at 0-0 at the break wondering how they aren't at least one goal to the good.
Certainly a missed Bannigan penalty hasn't helped but Thistle have no shortage of chances with Rudden clipping the top of the crossbar with half time approaching.
Rudden pressures a defender when all seemed lost and he nips in ahead of him and is so unlucky to see his shot clip the top of the crossbar.
Robson lays a ball right across the face of the Dunfermline goal but there is nobody there to apply the finish.
Thistle break quickly after clearing the corner but Cole looses control of the ball with men over and in space.
Rudden crosses for Graham at the back post but Graham can't direct his header away from Fon Williams.
Fon Williams gathers Penrice's corner at his back post.
Rudden is on the end of a hopeful ball into the box but although he is able to lift the ball over Fon Williams he can't keep it under the crossbar.
Bannigan takes it and Fon Williams guesses right, goes to his left and touches the ball round for corner.
Penrice is fouled and referee Kirkland has no hesitation in pointing to the spot.
Graham's cross after he collects sliced clearance by Ross is met first time on the volley by Robson who is unlucky to see his effort hit a defender.
Cole takes the corner from the left. It's curled in with pace and Fon Williams punches clear. The ball is returned into the box but again it is cleared. All Thistle at the moment.
Graham's effort is touched over the bar.
Penrice finds Rudden inside to his left but the big striker's touch is poor and he doesn't manage to get a shot away.
Thistle are firmly on the front foot in this game and are getting joy down each flank. This time it is Gordon just right of centre who touches the ball back to Bannigan who spoons his shot over the bar.
It's a really positive opening from Thistle and Fon Williams has to punch clear a Cole cross.
A hint of an early chance for Thistle as Gordon gathers a quickly taken Cole throw but his fiercely driven cross is cleared before Rudden can get on the end of it.
Dunfermline kick the game off and Thistle will be shooting towards the John Lambie Stand in the first half.
A huge week for Thistle starts tonight with the visit of Dunfermline.
Although Thistle have yet to taste victory in 2020 they are unbeaten in their last two games and there was plenty to be encouraged about in Saturday's 1-1 draw at Dundee United.
That fact is reflected in Ian McCall's team selection tonight which is unchanged from Saturday right down to the choice of 7 substitutes.
