💻️Highlights and reaction post match
Glasgow City have had a disappointing season by their standards as they sit 3rd in the table with 67 points, 9 points off Celtic and Rangers. The reigning champions suffered a narrow defeat against Rangers at Peasy on Sunday so will be hoping for a sharp response
Glasgow City’s squad has many talented individuals who could all make an impact on the game in a variety of ways. Emily Whelen performed well in the last match against the Jags and this week it was announced that the Republic of Ireland international has signed a new contract that will see her extend her stay in Glasgow. A real mixture of youth and experience, it will be interesting to see how Leanne Ross lines up for this Derby.
Ava Easdon has spent the season at Petershill on loan from Glasgow City and recently signed her first professional contract with her parent club. Unfortunately though she will be unavailable for this match due to the terms of her loan agreement.
We traveled away for a match with Celtic to knowing it would once again be a tough fixture. Having suffered heavy defeat a few weeks prior, we knew they’d come swinging from the start, especially with how tight the title race is.
The Jags went 1-0 down in the first half thanks to an Amy Gallagher goal with the Celtic top scorer adding to her tally. Celtic would eventually add a further two in the second half but despite a 3-0 defeat there was nothing but positives to take, especially from our gaffer.
Brian Graham spoke about how proud he was, stating this was the best the Jags had played against Celtic this season. He noted particularly the performance of Emma Lawton and, despite her misplaced pass leading to Celtic’s 2nd, highlighting how the hoops stopped coming down her side as they struggled with their attacks.
A final home match approaches. A game against our pitch rivals. We have had recorded record crowds this season at home and would love to break 5000 fans at Petershill this season with this match against GC. Come Be Part of This and back the Jags at home for the final time in 2023/24. .
Some late fitness tests will be assessed by the physio going into this one.
Shona Cowan made her return to the pitch on Sunday having spent a number of weeks out and is in contention for her first start since suffering injury. Clare Adams and Rebecca McAllister are two players who will be assessed before this game having both taken knocks against Celtic.
With that being said, it will be up to the gaffer and the rest of the management team to field their best possible side heading into this fixture as we head home for the final time this season for this Peasy derby.
