💻️Highlights and reaction post match
Glasgow City come into this new season having finished 3rd place, 9 points behind league winners Celtic at the top.
Glasgow have lost several key players this season as Leanne Ross prepares for this season with the likes of Carlee Giammona and Cori Sullivan returning to the USA, New Zealand international Meikayla Moore looking for pastures new and star player Lauren Davidson making the switch to Norwegian side Brann.
That being said, the former league champions have been busy in the transfer market bringing in the likes of Katie Lockwood from Hearts, Umea IK’s Sofia Maatta, who’s started her season with 4 goals already, as well as Lisa Evans, who made her return to Glasgow City 12 years after departing for Germany.
In terms of club links, former Thistle keeper Ava Easdon has stepped up as Glasgow City’s number two this season following her loan spell with the Jags last season. Due to the ongoing work at Petershill Park, we look forward to welcoming Glasgow City to our temporary venue Kirkintilloch as we prepare for this game on Sunday.
Thistle’s trip to the capital started off in lightning quick fashion as Caley Gibb opened the scoring 64 seconds into the match with a superb goal against her former club. Her tricky footwork got her past multiple Spartans defenders before sliding it into the bottom corner.
A few minutes later, Gibb found herself starting another dangerous attack picking up the ball at the half way line before the ball ended up in the feet of Hannah Robinson, another former Spartans player, who laid off Tiree Burchill who cleverley hit the ball first time and sent a looping effort over the head of the opposition keeper.
The rest of the game seemed to be seen out by the Jags and, despite the Edinburgh outfit pulling one back and a late red card for Claire Adams, Thistle walked away with their first 3 points of the season. Brian Graham spoke after the game about how he was proud to have got the first win of the season but stressed that the girls need to keep their foot on the gas and take their opportunities more.
Strong Followings from the Red and Yellow army helped our girls massively last season, and following our record numbers for an opening match when we were playing at Maryhill, we would love to see as many of you turn out at our next venue of Kirkintilloch.
Claire Adams is suspended for this match following her red card against Spartans during the week. Alongside this, Courtney Stewart, Kodie Hay and Cheryl McCulloch all remain out with their respective injuries.
With that being said, it will be up to the gaffer and the rest of the management team to field the best possible side heading into this fixture with a game against Glasgow City.
