💻️Highlights and reaction post match
Hearts come into this fixture in good form as they look to build on a 4th place finish last season. They remain in 4th at the moment with 18 points.
Eva Olid’s side lost a few big names over the summer with Kathleen McGovern and Ciara Grant moving to fierce rivals Hibs, Katie Lockwood making the switch to Glasgow City while Shona Cowan made her loan move at the Jags a permanent one.
That being said, the Jam Tarts have brought in a number of strong and talented players. Lisa Robinson joined from champions Celtic, Kayla Jardine made the move from Rangers having had a good spell on loan at Motherwell while Aberdeen trio Jessica Broadrick, Eilidh Shore and Bayley Hutchison realised their dreams of playing full time football. Alongside this, Hearts have utilised their homegrown talents with twins Jessica and Erin Husband being two key stars of their squad so far this season.
Hearts might have lost their last two fixtures against Glasgow City and Rangers respectively but carry a lot of danger. Their 4-0 gubbing of rivals Hibs is a clear sign of this therefore they will want to bring that style to Kirky. Always an exciting match up between the sides therefore it’s bound to be an exciting one this Sunday.
Thistle returned to our usual home of Petershill Park for a game against Spartans in the cup. Having met in this round of the cup last season and won our earlier contest, confidence was sky high for Thistle.
A testy start to the match as Spartans had gained more confidence since the previous meeting, Carla Boyce opened the scoring from distance as she linked up with Tiree Burchill to loop the ball over Thomson and give Thistle the advantage.
Caley Gibb continued to terrorise her former employers as she created chances from right back, reacting quickly to a Cara Henderson throw in and broke into the box, catching a loose arm to the face and gaining a penalty. Henderson stepped up and wasn’t going to make the same mistake she made the previous week, slotting it calmly into the bottom left hand corner doubling Thistle’s lead.
Spartans picked one back with a looping header from a corner beating Jeni Currie but it would be our own corner that would make things 3-1 as a well worked training ground strategy saw Lucy Sinclair continue her scoring from midfield as she pounced on Amy Bulloch’s corner.
The rest of the match didn’t seem to have much in it. Tiree Burchill nearly scored herself from distance with an audacious chip which Henderson pulled one just past the post. Things got nervy for the final few minutes however as Robyn McCafferty put one past Currie and despite Demi Falconer’s best efforts to clear it off the line, the score was 3-2. Things would end that way progressing thistle into the next round of the cup where we await Hibernian.
Strong Followings from the Red and Yellow army helped our girls massively last season and this season alike. It was great to return to Petershill last week and while the instillation of floodlights mean we are back to Kirkintilloch, we’d love to have as many fans as possible.
Clare Docherty is ruled out as she serves the last game of her suspension. Rachel Donaldson looks to miss out again with injury while Kodie Hay and Courtney Stewart both remain out of action as they recover from long term injury.
With that being said, it will be up to the gaffer and the rest of the management team to field the best possible side heading into this fixture with a game against Hearts.
