💻️Highlights and reaction post match
Montrose have had a difficult season since their SWPL2 title win last year, struggling to adapt to life in the SWPL1
A recent 8-0 thrashing at the hands of Hibernian saw a 3 game unbeaten run, including an impressive 3-3 draw with Hearts, come to an end. With a break from league action, it will be interesting to see how Craig Feroz’s side will treat this fixture with a spot in the semi finals up for grabs.
The last meeting between the squads occurred in August in a 5-0 win for the Jags in a league fixture that saw goals from Imogen Longcake, Megan Robb, Lucy Sinclair and a brace from top scorer Cara Henderson.
A 3-0 win at Firhill Stadium against Hamilton Accies marked the historical occasion well. A first half strike from Lucy Sinclair gave the Red and Yellow the lead, while second half goals from Cara Henderson from the penalty spot and a goal of the season contender from Emma Lawton saw off the Lanarkshire outfit.
Thistle played a game plan that included keeping possession and using high pressure and intensity to trouble the Hamilton backline. Brian Graham said after the game that he was pleased with the result but was actually disappointed the team hasn’t scored more. Had it not been a strong goalkeeping performance from Chloe Nicolson, it very easily could have been.
A break from league action, where we currently lie in 6th position, sees an opportunity for Brian Graham’s outfit to reach the semi finals of the Sky Sports Cup, one which the girls are raring to go and continue this cup run.
Strong Followings from the Red and Yellow army have helped our girls massively this season. We set a new attendance record at Petershill last time we played there, before breaking it further at Firhill. We’d love to see as many of you there on Sunday as we return to our usual home for this cup matchup.
A full squad is available for Brian Graham for this monumental fixture therefore the gaffer has options heading into this game.
With everyone looking to play for the chance at a spot in the semi finals of the Sky Sports cup, it will be up to the management team to select the strongest team available and secure their place.
