The Jags settled for a 1-1 draw on Sunday, with Mya Bates’ goal ensuring both teams finished level.
Thistle made one change to their starting line-up, with Kate Fraser coming in for Rosie Slater. Keria Syrjanen was also on the bench for the first time after her injury.
The Jags dominated the first half, frequently threatening their opponents and forcing the goalkeeper into action, however it was Motherwell who took the lead.
Motherwell were awarded a penalty in the 25th minute after Bailly Collins was adjudged to have been brought down. Ex-Jag Carla Boyce then slotted away to put the hosts ahead in the match.
An eventful second half saw the Jags struggle to test the Motherwell goalkeeper on too many occasions despite having the majority of the possession, but super substitute Mya Bates found the net from a long-distance strike, less than a minute on the pitch.
After the match, the media team interviewed goal scorer Mya Bates and assistant coach Craig Potter.
Bates, who arrived in the summer from Spartans, spoke of her delight in opening her scoring account with the Jags.
“Ello said to me, to just get a goal when I came on, I feel like after that it gave me a good confidence boost and gave us the draw in the game, which we needed.
“I think it was my first touch, I saw the keeper was off her line, and it was a good space to put the ball into, I put it in the space, and we got a goal out of it”.
The draw places Thistle in 7th, just one point behind Montrose in 6th
Despite the point, Craig Potter spoke on how his side will feel frustrated walking away with just a draw.
“There are mixed emotions, mostly frustration, as the performances have been decent the last couple of weeks. But I don’t think we really hit those heights today. Positive is that we found something out of the game, the first time we have come back and taken something from a game this season, which is important
We are still undefeated away from home, which is also important. But we were not at our best; we didn’t get beaten. Mostly frustration, as we didn’t pass the ball properly and didn’t make a purpose like we have been recently.
So we are pretty frustrated, players are frustrated too, as we know we are better than that. But always good, on top of that, we have found a way to get ourselves back into the game, show a bit of character late on, and get something out of the game. That is important, but we are still disappointed as we have higher standards than that”.
The Jags are back in action next week, as they welcome Hearts to Petershill.
