Kris Doolan’s side drew 2-2 but ultimately were defeated 7-6 on penalties and exited the Scottish Cup at Hampden against Queen’s Park. Goals came from Robbie Crawford and an own goal from Will Tizzard but was not enough to see The Jags progress into the next round.
An unchanged starting eleven for The Jags came two weeks on from an exciting 5-1 win over Hamilton Academical with David Mitchell making a return to the squad for the first time since July with Aaron Muirhead missing out through injury.
A promising start for The Jags came when Scott Robinson put the ball in the back of the net inside the first two minutes but was ruled out by the linesman’s offside flag.
A terrific block from Lee Ashcroft shortly afterwards cancelled out Zak Rudden’s attempt on goal receiving plenty of praise from the travelling Thistle support.
Thistle continued to press with Brian Graham heading the ball down to ROBBIE CRAWFORD whose shot found the back of the net giving The Jags a one goal lead on minute 11.
After the goal the Thistle press continued with Logan Chalmers going close and from the resultant corner Robinson flicked on for Graham, but his header flew just over the bar.
Thistle held most of the possession inside the first 15 minutes giving the opposition little to no time to breathe.
Aidan Fitzpatrick’s headed flick on to Chalmers nearly gave Thistle a two-goal advantage but was kept out by the opposition keeper’s legs. Another near attempt from Chalmers and Dan O’Reilly were stopped once again by Callum Ferrie as Thistle continued to be on top.
Thistle then had a penalty shout after Fitzpatrick’s pass found Chalmers who was brought down by the opposing defender, but the referee chose not to give it and waved play on. A deflected attempt from Fitzpatrick and follow up by Robinson nearly gave the fans more to celebrate but denied by that man Ferrie.
Chalmers floated a ball over to Harry Milne whose header found the arms of the opposition keeper. Graham picked up the ball just outside the halfway leading to passes between him and Stuart Bannigan before his attempt on goal saw the ball fingertipped past for a corner.
From the dead-ball O’Reilly’s cross found Robinson’s head was straight at the keeper.
The opposition then scored on minute 33 as Zak Rudden set up Louis Longridge whose shot deflected off Ashcroft and beat Myles Roberts before nestling in the back of the net.
Not long after the goal Roberts kept out a shot from Longridge once again.
Brian Graham’s shot went over the bar after a promising breakthrough which Chalmers and Bannigan contributed to.
The opposition continued to pry after a corner with attempts from Zak Rudden before a cross lead to Roddy MacGregor’s header finding the back of the net make it 2-1 on minute 41.
Opposition keeper Ferrie denied Thistle once again before Fieldson’s clearance kept out Milne and Graham just before halftime.

Early into the second Milne’s cross led to a corner where Kyle Turner’s attempt from outside the box went over the bar.
Queen’s Park forward Rudden had a go on goal a few minutes later and drifted wide of the post.
Harry Milne’s header deflected off the post as Thistle prosed an attack following a Turner free kick.
Just before the hour mark bookings came Thistle’s way after O’ Reilly and Ashcroft’s tackles. With Roberts fingertipping a shot past for a corner.
A thunderous attempt from Jack Thomson lead to another fine save from Roberts as the ball went out for a further Queen’s Park corner.
On 63 minutes it was 2-2 as Chalmers whipped in a cross and Tizzard’s header found the back of his own net to and not long after the goal Thistle showed more promise as Turner’s delicate cross could not find a Thistle player and went out for a goal kick.
Another attempt from Chalmers went over the bar after Thistle picked the ball up in the middle of the park. Turner’s pass found Crawford whose attempt was blocked and put out for a corner. Following the corner Graham’s shot was also blocked by a Queen’s Park defender.
Following a handball shout for the opposition Thomas’s shot is high and wide and didn’t faze Roberts.
Substitute Terry Ablade’s header went just wide of the post following a great cross from Chalmers as Thistle continued to look on the up and push for a late winner.
Queen’s Park’s Thomas decided to shoot from outside the box and his shot went cruising past the post causing Roberts to not even move.
Four minutes of added time was awarded as Brian Graham went down inside the box, but referee waved play on. As Graham was still on the ground Myles Roberts produced a terrific save to deny the opposition a late winner.

First half of extra time began in the Cup as Thomas’s effort arrived safely in the hands of Roberts in the first few minutes of the first half.
Cameron Kerr’s effort was blocked resulting in a Queen’s Park corner, but nothing came off the back of it.

The second half of extra time got underway as substitute Luke McBeth’s shot from outside the box ricocheted off the crossbar as Thistle showed promise going forward.
Steven Lawless stood over a free kick as multiple Thistle attempts eventually led to a Thistle corner with Ashcroft’s header going straight into the path of keeper Ferrie.
Thomson’s low shot from outside the box didn’t phase Roberts too much as it went straight into his arms.
Lawless played in substitute Ricco Diack who’s cross couldn’t reach Ablade as Thistle continued to show promise of a goal.
Joshua Scott’s cross for Queen’s Park took a deflection and was saved by Myles Roberts as it went out for a corner.
In the last-minute of normal time Ashcroft’s header clipped the bar and went over following a cross from the left-hand side.

An Ashcroft header clips the top of the bar and over.
Roberts gets down smartly at his right hand post to save a deflected shot.
Lawless finds Diack down the right. Diack though can't in turn pick out Ablade inside the Queen's box. It's looking more and more like penalties.
A low shot from Thomson doesn't cause Roberts too many problems though the ball does squirm away from a little.
Ashcroft gets his head to the corner but it is an easy save for Ferrie.
O'Reilly's header is saved with the follow up blocked.
Thistle have a free kick in a dangerous position around 30 yards from goal on the right hand side. Not in range of a direct effort on goal. Turner will need to come off after treatment so it is Lawless with the free kick.
McBeth rattles the Queen's Park crossbar with a shot from the edge of the box.
An uneventful first 15 minutes of extra-time. Queen's maybe just edged it. Plenty of tired legs out there. Just 15 minutes away from the dreaded penalties.

The corner is cleared but Queen's remain on the attack and Thomson sends in a shot that Roberts saves.
Roberts makes an excellent save just as Queen's look set to win the tie.
Ferrie whips the ball away from the toes of Graham.

Roberts makes a confident catch from the free kick.
Queen's free kick just in from the left touchline in a dangerous position.

The referee spots an infringement on O'Reilly as the corner comes over and Thistle have a free kick.
It's a great cross from Chalmers on the left but Ablade can't get the required touch to put Thistle back in front.
A Thomas shot is always on the rise and Roberts isn't required to make a save.
Graham's shot on the turn is blocked by a defender.
Chalmers has switched to the left with Ablade occupying a role on the right.
Thistle are furious as a poor challenge on Robinson goes unpunished. Play continues and it is Queen's that earn a free kick inside the Thistle half.
A left footed effort from Chalmers from just outside the box is a foot or so too high.

Turner's low drive is off target but Robinson and Graham are close to getting a touch to it.
Thistle are level as a Chalmers cross is headed into his own net by Tizzard.
Roberts does well to get a finger to a Thomson shot and that touch is enough to get the ball over the bar.
There's nothing like the fluency to the Thistle performance in the second half that we saw in the first. It's Queen's Park that are the better side at the moment.
Thistle are close again from the free kick but nobody can force the ball home. O'Reilly goes down inside the box but the decision goes against the Thistle defender.

After Robbie Crawford's opener and times it looked as if it was Thistle v Calum Ferrie in the Queen's Park goal.
Thistle though couldn't find the killer second goal and Queen's Park have made Thistle pay in full for those missed chances.
Somehow the ball doesn't end up in the Queen's Park net after Milne squares the ball. Sums up a first half of chance after Thistle chance.
Into first half added time.
This game has been turned on its head. It's a simple cross into the box and a deft header from MacGregor that finds the back of the Thistle net.
Turner takes the free kick. There is a flick of the ball towards goal but Ferrie collects with ease.
A tug on Robinson gives Thistle a free kick deep inside the Queen's half.
Graham is able to collect the ball inside the box but can't keep his shot down.
Roberts makes himself a big target to beat and he makes a fine block to deny Longridge a second goal.
Thistle are left to rue missed chances as Queen's draw level as Longridge buries a cross low into the net.
O'Reilly picks the ball up after the initial corner is cleared. He crosses for Robinson whose header is straight at Ferrie.
Ferrie gets his fingertips to a Graham shot to keep the score at 1-0.
Milne heads on a Chalmers cross but it is too close to Ferrie for Graham to get on the end of.
Ferrie produces a fantastic double save to firstly deny Fitzpatrick and then Robinson from the rebound. Thistle could easily be three or four up by now.
Milne gets his foot to the ball to clear a dangerous cross from the left.
O'Reilly's header from Chalmers' corner lands on the roof of the net without threatening the Queen's goal.
Big shouts for a Thistle penalty as Crawford hits the deck under a Queen's challenge. Referee Anderson waves play on though.
O'Reilly gets his head to the corner but this time it is an easy save for Ferrie to make.
Ferrie denies Thistle a second with a good stop with his legs to prevent Chalmers from finding the net.
It's a great chance for Thistle from Turner's corner. Robinson heads on but Graham can't apply the finish from close range. Perhaps too close as he can't direct his header downwards.
Thistle take the lead with Robbie Crawford netting his first Thistle goal since his return to the club. Graham sets up Crawford who fires low into the corner of the net.
Chalmers is able to collect a Milne cross at the back post but his cut back is cleared.
Ashcroft makes a great block to deny Rudden as the home side threaten for the first time.
A blocked shot spins into the path of Robinson who lifts the ball high into the net but the flag is up for offside.
Stuart Bannigan kicks the game off. Eventually.
We begin our Scottish Cup campaign where we hope to end it in around 6 months time at the National Stadium.
To progress to the next round though there is the not inconsiderable hurdle of Queen's Park to overcome first.
Queen's Park have been familiar opponents of late and there is a familiar look to Kris Doolan's team selection this afternoon.
The same side that started the 5-1 win over Hamilton last time out start this one. The only change is on the bench where there is a welcome return from injury for David Mitchell.
