Hamilton Accies v Partick Thistle – 24th October 2017

After nine heart-wrenching league games without a win, Partick Thistle finally grabbed that elusive victory with a turnaround triumph against Dundee. Having fallen behind within ten minutes, it took goals from Ryan Edwards and Miles Storey in the final 15 minutes to secure the win for Thistle with the latter’s coming in the second minute of injury time at the end of the game. Suddenly, things are looking much rosier for the Maryhill men who travel to the SuperSeal Stadium tomorrow night looking for two victories on the bounce. Martin Canning’s Accies have lost six games in a row and a clash with Hamilton represents a good opportunity for the Jags to climb off the foot of the Ladbrokes Premiership table. Thistle boss, Alan Archibald, spoke to ptfc.co.uk ahead of his side’s trip to South Lanarkshire.

Archie started by emphasising just how relieving the win over Dundee was for not only him but the entire Thistle squad.

“The longer a winless run goes on, it can become unbearable. It’s great to finally take that weight off our shoulders. We’ve had a real tough start and it’s probably felt worse than in previous seasons because this squad is good enough to be doing much better but injuries have stopped that which has been frustrating.”

The gaffer admitted that his side’s performance wasn’t particularly good on Saturday but said that the points are so much more important that the performance in their situation.

“We’ve been on the other side of the fence before; when we’ve created good chances and played some good stuff but ultimately come away with no points and it’s not a good feeling. However, on Saturday we were the side who got away with some poor play and snatched the win even though it wasn’t our best showing.”

Alan also said that his squad are raring to go against Hamilton with only two days in between the late victory at the weekend and tomorrow night’s fixture.

“I hear a lot of people talk about the next three or four games but when you’re at the bottom of the table, you can only focus on one game at a time and that’s what we’ve been doing. Before the Dundee game we weren’t thinking about going to Hamilton but since Saturday, that’s all we’ve been focussed on and we’re ready to go. There’s a huge incentive for the players because a win would put us above them and mentally, getting off the bottom would be massive for us.”

Archie and his squad of Jags now prepare for tomorrow’s away trip to the SuperSeal Stadium as they look to lift themselves off the foot of the league table. Kick-off from South Lanarkshire is 19:45.
