🆚 Our Opponents: Dundee Utd

Dundee United have had a difficult season this campaign, sitting bottom of the league table on 4 points. Whilst not confirmed yet, their relegation seems inevitable as they enter the final stages of the season.

While they have struggled, Dundee United have had some standouts in their squads despite the negative scores. Freya Brien has had a positive time on loan from Hearts this season as she sits top scorer for Dundee United with 5 goals, Morgan Steedman has also stood out in attack while Beth Rennie has made a number of impressive saves for Dundee United, preventing their scorelines from getting higher than what most have ended up being.

The last fixture between the clubs saw 4-1 win for PTW at Petershill in our special Jags Foundation takeover day in January with goals that afternoon coming from Rachel Donaldson, Caley Gibb, Imogen Longcake and Tiree Burchill before a late consolation goal from Amy Taylor pulled one back for the visitors.

Thistle have put 8 overall past the Arabs this season and will be looking to use that to give some motivation having suffered with some poor form in recent times.

📈Thistle so far

Thistle welcomed Aberdeen down from the Granite City hoping to change their fortune in this bottom six campaign. Brian Graham opted for a mix of experience and youth in his lineup with Wales U19s international Amy Richardson starting at right back with Rosie Slayer on the left while more senior members of the squad in skipper Demi Falconer and Cheryl McCulloch partnered them at the heart of the defence. Cara Henderson made her first start having suffered an injury which kept her out of action since the end of 2024 and looked sharp.

PTW looked to be in control as they made their way forward and smothered Aberdeen’s flanks, often attempting to unleash the pace of Imogen Longcake and Rachel Donaldson off the wings and Tiree Burchill at striker. Aberdeen’s back 3 were able to handle this well as Jessica Broadrick commanded her defence. Aberdeen’s attempts to use the longball capabilities of Toni Leigh Finnegan finally paid off as she found Ellie May Cowan who slotted back to Francesca Ogilvie allowing the 23 year old to give the Dons the lead. The half ended 1-0 as Thistle were left frustrated.

The second half started off much better with the introductions of Carla Boyce and Georgia Gray showing an added flair which was much needed as chances started to flow. A corner kick was met by Lucy Sinclair who rattled the bar before Boyce could get on the end of it, drawing things level and seeing Thistle score their 600th professional goal. Unfortunately, the lead wouldn’t last long as Kerry Anne Beattie slotted home to restore Aberdeen’s advantage. Tiree Burchill latched onto the end of a superb long ball and rounded the keeper slotting it home before the assistant referee controversially called it offside, leaving fans and players frustrated alike. The match would end 2-1 Aberdeen, inflicting another loss for the Jags as our bottom six campaign continues.

Strong Followings from the Red and Yellow army helped our girls massively last season and this season alike. We make the trip to a venue which has given us many magic moments, such as Cara Henderson’s top 6 securing goal as well as a Rachel Donaldson goal of the season contender. We’d love to see as many of you make this trip to Dundee and back our girls.

🗞 Team News

Another week off has allowed the team to regroup and recharge heading into this one. Ellie Kane made her debut for the Jags against Aberdeen following a lengthy spell on the sidelines so will be in line to make her first start for Thistle while a predicted full squad is expected for this game.

With that being said, it will be up to the gaffer and the rest of the management team to field the best possible side heading into this fixture with a game against Dundee United.
