🆚 Our Opponents: Dundee Utd

Dundee United have struggled in the following weeks after our 4-3 win at Foundation Park. That game saw their relegation confirmed and they continued their winless run with narrow defeats to Spartans and Montrose.

United have got good options within their ranks however. Hearts loanees Beth Rennie and Freya Brien were standouts against Thistle in the last meeting with a number of good saves and goals respectively. Natasha Bruce has steadied the midfield since her return from Aberdeen and it will be seen what game Dundee United bring with their relegation confirmed.

Our last fixture against Dundee United saw Thistle kick off a 3 game win streak and we’ll be looking to make that 4 under the lights.

📈Thistle so far

Thistle welcomed Spartans to Petershill for our 3rd match in a week knowing they would be a difficult side to break down. Spartans had been on a win streak since the split and possessed a number of threats.

Thistle were without a number of first team bodies for this one but Spartans equally were missing a threat as YPOTY nominee and danger player Hannah Jordan was omitted from their squad. The first half ensued with neither team able to really find their footing. Jeni Currie produced a great save to deny Spartans a 1-0 lead late on in the first half while Thistle couldn’t make the chances they’d have liked with Rosie Slater  trying a patented long shot which just went over the bar.

The second half followed with a more routine display from both sides. Olivia Chomczuk and Erin Rennie both created chances for the visitors while Mya Christie and Aimee Anderson threatened with their pace. Ellie Kane and Tiree Burchill poached the Spartans defence while it would be the battling spirit of loaned Amy Richardson who’d win the ball back and set up Burchill who fired in her 3rd in as many games as she continues to impress in red and yellow.

Jeni Currie was called into action again late into the second half with Mya Bates latching onto a dangerous long ball and attempting to lob the keeper who laid her body on the line and denied the youngster. A 1-0 win for thistle was the outcome and a good win at that. Heads turn as we face Dundee United now before a massive game on the road to Aberdeen on Sunday.

Strong Followings from the Red and Yellow army helped our girls massively last season and this season alike. We have been back to form as of late and your support has been a massive part of this. We’d love to see as many of you as possible for this midweek matchup against the Tangerines.

🗞 Team News

This week brought the devastating news that Cara Henderson and Lucy Sinclair had suffered ACL injuries in that last game against Dundee United. Clare Docherty fractured her arm and will unfortunately miss the rest of the season.

Carla Boyce missed out against Spartans in our last game but has been recovering well so could see a return to the matchday squad here.

A few more late fitness tests will play out as we head into this one following a few tough games as of late. With that being said, it will be up to the gaffer and the rest of the management team to field the best possible side heading into this fixture with a game against Dundee United.
