It has been a tough time for Dundee United in the SWPL this season as they sit bottom of the table with 4 points. Heavy defeats have ensued for the Arabs as they struggle to find much form. They’ve played 2 games in 2025 so far losing 6-1 and 5-0 respectively to Motherwell and Hibs.
United have also lost a few key players with Leah Sidey departing for St Johnstone, Stacey McFayden heading to Arbroath and club captain Ellie-May Cowan joining Aberdeen. They have brought bodies in as Anna Dickov joined from Livingston while Charley Creamer made the move from Montrose.
Our last fixture against Dundee United saw Thistle win 4-0 in a game our squad were disappointed in the number of chances missed.. We’ll look to take our chances this Sunday as we welcome our visitors from Dundee.
Thistle started the new year with a trip to Celtic. A strong Celtic side was named and Thistle knew they had to try and shut out star striker Soairse Noonan who had been in firing form as of late. With that being said, Noonan would open the scoring after she connected with a strike following a great run from former Thistle fullback Emma Lawton down the flank.
Thistle would equalise just before the hour mark as Carla Boyce capatilised on a mistake in the Celtic backline and lobbed it over former Thistle loanee Chloe Logan to make it all square. It was very back and forth between the sides but the full time outfit showed their quality and determination as Lawton again picked out Noonan to give the Celts the advantage once more.
Further goals from Kelly Clark and Maria McAneny helped Celtic secure the 3 points but not before our skipper Demi Falconer picked up her first of the season after a bullet header from an Amy Bulloch delivery.
Strong Followings from the Red and Yellow army helped our girls massively last season and this season alike. They are desperate to get back to winning ways and hopefully Sunday can be that day as we play at Petershill Park for the first time in 2025.
Cara Henderson has been making progress following an injury she suffered at the tail end of 2024 and is hopeful to return to the squad. Kodie Hay made her return to the squad following her lengthy spell on the sidelines so could be in line for her first start.
New signings Olivia King, Emma Craig and Mae English, who was called up for the Scotland u17s squad this week, are in line to make their first appearances at Petershil Park since joining in January while Ellie Kane is likely to miss the fixture as she recovers from her recent injury.
With that being said, it will be up to the gaffer and the rest of the management team to field the best possible side heading into this fixture with a game against Dundee United.
