💻️Highlights and reaction post match
Glasgow City come into this fixture full of confidence as they remain top of the SWPL with 37 points from 14 games, only losing once to Celtic on match day 2.
Before the international break, they enjoyed two matches that involved 6 goals scored with 6-1 and 6-0 wins over Queens Park and Spartans respectively.
They had several players involved with their countries during the break with Nicola Kozlova representing Ukraine, while Lisa Evans starred in Scotland’s playoff wins against Hungary. Former Jag Ava Easdon also linked up with her country for u19s duty as she played her part as Scotland secured victories against Hungary and Sweden, two games that also featured our very own Georgia Gray.
Thistle made the trip through to a difficult Meadowbank venue to face a tough Hibernian side who beat the Jags 4-1 just a few weeks prior. Having been down to bare bones and without a number of players due to injury and illness, it was always going to be a challenge.
An end to end fixture saw both teams go at each other as the continued rivalry was renewed between the clubs. Chances were flying at both ends and it would be the hosts to take the lead as Tegan Bowie found the back of the net just on the brink of half time.
Thistle didn’t let this deter them though as a minute into the second half Cara Henderson found her first goal in 2 months to grant PTW a much needed equaliser. A real confidence booster, Thistle continued to create chances but were unable to grab a winner. Neither were the hosts however as Chloe Logan, on an emergency loan from Celtic, pulled off a number of brilliant saves while Cheryl McCulloch cleared a dangerous chance off the line.
A late red card to Georgia Gray made it a nervy few minutes but one the Jags were able to see out, taking a valuable point back to Glasgow as we continue to chase top 6.
Strong Followings from the Red and Yellow army helped our girls massively this season, and with a derby against Glasgow City for this cup fixture, we would love for the Thistle fans to bring the noise and support the girls.
Jeni Currie makes her return to the Thistle squad having missed out against Hibs. Chloe Logan returns to Celtic with our thanks having earned a spot in the TOTW with that emergency loan against the Hibs. Clare Docherty is back from illness and Hannah Robinson returns from the squad giving Brian Graham some more options. Georgia Gray picked up a late red card in that match but will be available for this cup match before missing two league matches while Jenna Ferguson remains out with her injury picked up against Glasgow City in the last game between the sides.
With that being said, it will be up to the gaffer and the rest of the management team to field the best possible side heading into this fixture with a game against Glasgow City.
