It hasn’t been the best of starts to Hamilton’s season albeit they faced two top six sides in their opening two fixtures.
An opening day 4-0 home defeat to Hearts was followed by a 7-1 defeat away to Celtic on Sunday with Josephine Giard scoring Hamilton’s first goal of the current season just before the interval.
There are a couple of familiar faces in the current Hamilton squad. Featuring as a starter in each of their two games so far has been Freya MacDonald while Taylor Fisher has been on the Hamilton bench in each of those two games.
Thistle had the upper hand against Hamilton in both of the two meetings between the two teams.
The first match was, as is Wednesday’s, was at New Douglas Park and ended in a resounding 5-1 win for Thistle.
The Thistle cause was helped no doubt by the early sending off of Accies’ keeper Chloe Nicolson but Thistle were utterly ruthless in exploiting the player advantage.
Linzi Taylor opened the scoring for Thistle after 22 minutes with a trademark Rachel Donaldson cracker doubling the lead before the break.
Abbie Ferguson made the points secure with a third Thistle goal seven minutes after the restart before Taylor grabbed her second goal of the afternoon. Thistle’s fifth came courtesy of a Jordan McLintock penalty 15 minutes from full-time.
Hopes of a Thistle clean sheet were banished with the game nudging the 90 minute mark when Megan Quinn converted a penalty following a hotly contested handball decision.
The return meeting at Petershill Park was a much tighter affair with the game being settled by a Cara Henderson just after the half hour mark.
After starting the league season in such positive fashion against Dundee United it was a tougher challenge altogether for Thistle on Sunday as they faced last season’s Champions Glasgow City.
After a stubborn opening from Thistle that limited opportunities for City, their resistance was broken after 22 minutes. A second goal 12 minutes later doubled the City advantage. The second half followed a similar pattern to that of the first with Thistle defending stoutly but any doubt over the destination of the points were removed when City scored a third from the penalty spot with 10 minutes of the game remaining.
Thistle will be looking to get back right on track with victory against Hamilton.
After serving her one game suspension against Glasgow City at the weekend, Clare Docherty comes back into the squad for this game.
After being unable to feature against her parent club goalkeeper Ava Easdon also returns to the squad.
Linzi Taylor is nearing full fitness and will be assessed in the lead up to the game. Rachel Donaldson, as well as long term absentee Cheryl McCulloch, looks likely to sit this one out.
