🆚 Our Opponents: Hibernian

Hibs have had a good season sitting 5th in the SWPL on 39 points, a single point and place above the Jags in 6th.

We know how good Grant Scott’s side can be when they turn up and the capability they have especially when at their home ground of Meadowbank Stadium, having picked up several high scoring victories when being the hosts. Having had a tough few weeks and not getting the results they would like, they’ll be hoping to get out of their slump, get a victory and further the gap between them and the Jags.

In terms of club links, Abbie Ferguson enjoyed a fruitful loan spell last season with us and has had a fantastic season with the Edinburgh outfit this season. Stewart Hall made the switch to the capital this time last year and has been a key part of the Hibernian backroom since.

Our last meeting with Hibs ended in a 1-1 draw at Petershill Park when Rachel Donaldson’s looping effort made sure points were shared. Our last visit to Meadowbank saw a 2-0 victory for Thistle as Lucy Sinclair scored a brace off the bench in a huge away win for PTW.

📈Thistle so far

We welcomed Hearts to Petershill Park for our quarter final Scottish Cup tie with a place at Hampden hanging in the balance. After controversial circumstances in our last tie against the Jambos, Thistle were fired up and looked to secure their semifinal spot.
Thistle looked to take the lead as Carla Boyce’s header appeared to cross the line to put the Jags 1-0 up. However, the referee determined the ball didn’t cross the line and despite appeals from players, management and fans alike, the game remained goalless. The first half remained at 0-0 after Megan Cunningham made an excellent save to tip Ciara Grant’s superb long range effort onto the bar.

Hearts picked up in the second half with Jessica Husband getting the best chance of the half by missing from about 10 yards out. This was a sign of things to come as Hearts continued a flurry of attacks preventing Thistle from getting much of the ball. A cheap foul down the left flank allowed Grant to whip in a dangerous ball where Lizzie Waldie put the ball in the back of the net in the 87th minute, ending Thistle’s dreams of reaching the national stadium in a cup semi final.

Strong Followings from the Red and Yellow army have helped our girls massively. A trip on the road to the capital awaits the Jags and it would be fantastic to see as many of our supporters as possible.

🗞 Team News

Aimee Anderson returns to the squad having been ineligible under the terms of her loan agreement from Hearts therefore is in contention to make her first start while Shona Cowan is a doubt due to a knock suffered a couple weeks back.

With that being said, it will be up to the gaffer and the rest of the management team to field the best possible side heading into this fixture with the chance to continue our undefeated streak against the Hibees.
