🆚 Our Opponents: Hibernian

Hibs have had a good season sitting 4th in the SWPL with 38 points, just a point above Thistle in 5th. Grant Scott’s side suffered a 3-1 defeat to a tough Celtic side in last week’s fixtures as they look to recover their momentum and make more of a gap between themselves, the Jags and Hearts in 6th.

Hibernian’s squad has a lot of talented individuals with the likes of Jorian Baucom, who sits top scorer of the SWPL and Michaela McAlonie both receiving praise from pundits and fans over the past few weeks. Leah Eddie recently received a call up to the Scotland National Team and will be hoping for a better showing than last time having received a red card during the semi finals. Former Jag Abbie Ferguson continues to be a wide threat in Grant Scott’s setup so will prove to be tricky for our full backs to stop her once more. Stewart Hall also remains a key part of the Hibs backroom having been former assistant manager at Thistle before leaving just before the split last season.

Previous fixtures against Hibs this season has seen the Jags win twice, firstly in the league thanks to a Lucy Sinclair brace before that famous night at Petershill a month ago that seen goals from Linzi Taylor and Rosie Slater secure a place in the final of the Sky Sports League Cup against Rangers.

📈Thistle so far

We welcomed Rangers to Petershill Park knowing that it would be a difficult encounter. Fully aware of the capabilities Jo Potter’s side possess, the Jags were more than determined to give the side in top of the table their first defeat off the season,

Rangers came out of the gate swinging, as expected, as they looked to get the ball rolling early however Brian Graham’s unorthodox team thwarted any attempts made by the blue side of Glasgow.

The first goal of the game came through the Jags however as Emma Lawton found the bottom corner erupting the Thistle fans at Petershill Park; or so we thought. In the build up to the goal, the referee had spotted a foul on Olivia McGlaughlin and penalised the red and yellow, something Jags fans have been quick to voice frustrations about. Regardless, play continued and some fantastic shot stopping by young Ava Easdon in goal kept Rangers at bay and secured the 0-0 for Thistle, our first point against one of the big three in our club’s history. A fantastic achievement where our girls
were unlucky to not grab all three points.

Strong Followings from the Red and Yellow army have helped our girls in recent times and we’d love to see as many of you make Petershill as noisy as last time out as we welcome our visitors from the capital.

🗞 Team News

Nearly a full squad available for Brian Graham this weekend with Jenna Ferguson returning having been ineligible against her parent club last week. Megan Cunningham remains out having been recalled on an emergency 7 day period by Rangers therefore will be out of contention once more.

With that being said, it will be up to the gaffer and the rest of the management team to field their best possible side heading into this fixture with a chance to go three in three against Hibs this season.
