🆚 Our Opponents: Hibernian

Hibs come into this cup match in great form. Having beat the Jags in the first game week of the season at Maryhill Juniors, Grant Scott’s side have built momentum throughout the season

They picked up a 7-1 win last weekend against Aberdeen as key players from all over the pitch chipped in for that victory. Danger players for Hibs right now come in the form of strikers Kathleen McGovern, who scored a hat trick off the bench against the Dons, and Eilidh Adams, currently second top scorer in the top flight having scored an extra two on that away day to Aberdeen.

Hibs have two former Thistle stars amongst their ranks in the form of former loanee Abbie Ferguson who has won the SWPL player of the month already this season while Linzi Taylor made the move to full time football with Hibs in the summer and hasn’t looked out of place since forming a solid midfield partnership with Kirsten Reilly this season. Taylor scored in our cup semi win over Hibs last season as she lifted a freekick over the wall and into the back of the net as we won 2-0 on that historic day at Peasy.

We look forward to welcoming them both back to Petershill Park alongside the rest of the Hibs squad.

📈Thistle so far

Thistle’s “away” day to Glasgow City was a difficult one for the girls. The league leaders were relentless from the moment the ref blew the whistle as they looked to dominate possession and keep Thistle off the ball as much as possible. They succeeded with this plan and continued to attack the wings through both full backs and wingers. The hosts opened the scoring after 16 minutes as Emily Whelan got the ball down the left flank before cutting it back to allow Brenna Lovera an easy tap in past Jeni Currie. Currie made a number of great saves following this to allow the scoreline to stay at 1-0.

The second half saw a lot more positive football from Thistle as passes started to connect more and free flowing football ensued although the solidity of Claire Walsh and Sam Van Diemen thwarted any chance of getting past the halfway line. An unfortunate trip from Georgia Gray, a real standout on the day, on Aleigh Gambone saw a penalty kick go against the Jags and allow Brenna Lovera to pick her second of the match. Some good defending and midfield play saw Glasgow City shut out for a long time however when Jenna Ferguson picked up an injury in added time, 10 player thistle were left to struggle as Wilma Forsblom scored her second against Thistle this season in the 96th minute leaving it 3-0 to City. A difficult day at the office but one that was a good test for our squad against the most successful team in the division.

Strong Followings from the Red and Yellow army help our girls massively. We broke our Peasy attendance record against Hibs in our cup semi last season as fans braved the conditions. The weather is expected to be much better this time around and we hope to see as many fans as possible.

🗞 Team News

Kodie Hay and Rachel Donaldson returned to light training having both been out for a long period but both are still a way off from returning to full fitness. Courtney Stewart also remains out with her long standing injury while Jenna Ferguson was forced off in the closing stages against Glasgow City and she’ll be assesed before the game to see if she is able to go.

With that being said, it will be up to the gaffer and the rest of the management team to field the best possible side heading into this fixture with a game at home against Hibs.
