Montrose come into this fixture having ended a 3 month unbeaten streak when they picked up a 3-0 win over SWF Championship side East Fife in the Scottish Cup. Strikes from Louise Brown and a double from Alma Codegoni secured their place in the next round as they face Rangers.
Montrose were due to have a game against Aberdeen on Wednesday night but bad weather caused the game to be postponed. This could have gave them an opportunity for back to back wins, something they haven’t managed since May 2024 in their bottom half win streak last season.
Montrose have only picked up one point since their last league win, the reverse fixture against Partick Thistle where a 1-1 draw took place in mid October. Carla Boyce nullified Neve Guthrie’s goal to ensure Thistle could take a point back to Glasgow to at day and our girls are raring to go to, not only end our winless run, but get revenge from that difficult afternoon and secure all 3 points.
Thistle welcomed visitors from the capital Spartans for a midweek matchup having suffered a cup exit a few days prior. Having had a minimal squad, with Georgia Gray’s suspension, Caley Gibb out with illness and the known injuries this season, only 3 available outfield players made the bench meaning it was always going to be tough.
Thistle started poor in the first half with the visitors grabbing the lead just 8 minutes Hannah Jordan picking up her 9th of the season as she continues to impress for Spartans. Carla Boyce capitalised on a great team effort as Tiree Burchill set her strike partner up well to grab the equaliser.
The second half saw Thistle dominate for most of the second half as we took control of the ball yet unable to find the back of the net. This saw the points shared at Petershill Park as we were unable to take advantage of Motherwell dropping all three to Rangers meaning the gap was only closed to two points.
Strong Followings from the Red and Yellow army helped our girls massively last season and this season alike. They are desperate to get back to winning ways and hopefully Sunday can be that day as we play at Petershill Park for the final time in 2024.
Manager Brian Graham will hope to welcome back Caley Gibb from illness. Georgia Gray’s serves her final game suspension following her red card against Hibs. Rebecca McAllister and Jenna Ferguson will again miss out, while Kodie Hay makes good progress with her return but this match comes too soon for her.
With that being said, it will be up to the gaffer and the rest of the management team to field the best possible side heading into this fixture with a game against Montrose.
