🆚 Our Opponents: Queen’s Park

Queen’s Park come into this fixture already relegated having struggled this season. This
however means they have nothing to lose and have been experimenting in recent weeks with their squad as they look to end their season with a good atmosphere.

Results haven’t gone their way yet they’ve tried to play a new style under Iain Robinson as they prepare for next season’s very tough looking SWPL2.

The sides met almost exactly a month ago at Ochilview where the Jags came out 1-0 winners through a Tiree Burchill winner. Our girls will be looking to grab another victory and end our final home game with a victory.

📈Thistle so far

Thistle welcomed Montrose to Peasy in a real six pointer. Both clubs had huge consequences riding on it. A win for Thistle would have secured safety and confirmed Montrose’s relegation. A win for Montrose would make the final week of the season very interesting.

A change in shape was opted for this game. Knowing the dangers that Montrose possessed up front through youngster Holly Daniel and the wide areas being ran ragged through Demi Taylor and Louise Brown, Thistle opted for a back 5 for this game.

The away side opened the scoring after just a couple minutes as Cassie Cowper whipped in a free kick which managed to go directly into the roof of the net and give the Mo a huge opener.

The hard hitting style of Montrose thwarted many Jags chances as their solid back three of Cowper, Tally Robb and Georgia Carted stopped a strike force of Carla Boyce and Ellie Kane creating anything. Tiree Burchill managed to fire a good looking shot which just whizzed past the post while Ellie Kane could not capatilise on a poor goal kick by the visitors, ending the half at 1-0.

A similarly frustrating second half followed. Montrose didn’t really attack apart from a rocket by Glasgow City loanee Sophia Martin which grazed the bar. Yet their tight compacted defence played a key part in stopping Thistle from creating anything. The introduction of Rachel Donaldson and Kodie Hay sparked some life into our midfield but again we couldn’t take advantage. Carla Boyce looked to have secured a draw in the last minute but her bullet header rattled the bar. In the end it would be defeat for Thistle.

Strong Followings from the Red and Yellow army have helped our girls massively. Our final fixture at home awaits us here. This season hasn’t gone to plan but we need you all to help our girls one last time and turn Petershill Park into the fortress we know it can be under the lights.

🗞 Team News

A similar squad to last time out with Rebecca McAllister still injured, Imogen Longcake has missed the last few with injury and will be assessed before this one.

With that being said, it will be up to the gaffer and the rest of the management team to field the best possible side heading into this fixture with a game against Queen’s Park.
