Rangers have had a great season so far as they sit 2nd in the table with 66 points, equal points with bitter rivals Celtic in top position. Jo Potter will be wanting a heavy victory here as they lie 16 goals shy of Celtic in top spot and know they need to score goals.
We know exactly the type of talent that Rangers possess. They beat us in the Sky Sports
League Cup final at Tynecastle 4-1 in a game that proved why they are one of the best in the country. The likes of Kirsty Howat, Brogan Hay and Mia McAuley are all likely to make an impact while Tessel Middag and Nicola Docherty will make our attacking threats difficult.
A recent 3-1 defeat against the blue side of Glasgow showed we could compete with Rangers, with them having to score 2 late goals to secure all 3 points. It will be a difficult match but one that our girls are excited to get into as we face our final Glasgow Derby of the season, and a chance to shake up the title charge.
We welcomed Glasgow City to Petershill for our final home game of the season. Having performed valiantly against the reigning champions last time out, we knew we could cause issues.
A scrappy affair from the start, both teams were up for the match. A flurry of chances for either side ensued, with Emily Whelen causing problems for the Thistle defence while Rachel Donaldson did the same up the other end. City, despite controlling possession, couldn’t find the net in the first half and seen the half out for a 0-0.
City would turn up the pressure in the second half as Carlee Giamanna managed to get a long shot from the edge of the area and find the back of the net. Carla Boyce nearly caught Erin Clachers out with an audacious shot from her own half moments later while Emma Lawton’s determination showed Thistle were not out of the game.
Unfortunately for the Jags, American forward Giamanna doubled her tally for the evening getting a free header at the back stick to give City the 2-0 win on the night. A strong performance from Thistle showing just how far the squad has come against the reigning champions.
Strong followings from the Red and yellow army have helped our girls out a lot this season. A record breaking year, your cheers home and away have been noticed massively. As our final game day beckons, It would be great to see as many of you as possible for this Glasgow Derby and close out the 2023/24 campaign with a bang.
Imogen Longcake and Claire Adams have been working hard to recover from respective injuries and both are desperate to play in this last game day. A late fitness test is needed to see if they can make the matchday squad however.
Jenna Ferguson and Megan Cunningham are unfortunately unavailable and are ineligible under the terms of their loan agreement from Rangers, which is unfortunate as both have performed very well this season. This means both players have put on the Thistle jersey for the final time in the 23/24 campaign.
With all that being said, it will be up to the gaffer and the rest of the management team to field
