It was a disappointing afternoon at the Energy Check Stadium at Firhill for Partick Thistle as the managerless Jags fell to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Dunfermline Athletic. Interim caretaker manager Gerry Britton was in the dug out, alongside Scott Allison and it was the Jags chief executive who spoke to ptfc.co.uk shortly after the full time whistle starting with an update on the manager search.
“The recruitment process started the second the decision was made to replace Gary. There are a number of candidates who have applied and piqued the interest of the board. Furthermore, there are a couple of candidates who are currently working within the game that the board are keen to investigate. Today shows just how important it is to get the right person to take the group forward. I’m not saying that today’s performance and result will speed things up and there definitely won’t be any hasty decisions made but it reinforces that we need to make the right choice to take the club forward
“Myself, Scott and Kenny will continue to take the team until an appointment is made. If it’s not made by Wednesday, then of course we’ll be leading the side on Wednesday night against Celtic.”
Gerry then spoke about the ninety minutes which proved to be frustrating and disappointing for the Thistle fans watching in the stands.
“We started the game well. We were trying to get the ball in the wide areas because we felt that Cardle or Zanatta are capable of causing problems for teams. We did that without then getting the final ball, getting a vital first goal.
“Unfortunately for us, it was two mistakes that Dunfermline took advantage of. If you go two goals down in a game then it’s always a big ask to get into it. We’re bitterly disappointed as we genuinely felt everything set up today like the conditions, the pitch, everything was set up for the guys to give us a positive performance. It just didn’t happen. That’s all we can do, if we don’t get the performance we are looking for then it’s very disappointing.”
