Partick Thistle struck early through Tony Watt for a second game running and the striker’s header was enough to see off Queen’s Park 1-0 at The city Stadium on the south-side of Glasgow.
Paddy Reading and Oisin Smyth missed out with minor knocks and that saw Cammy Logan and Ben Stanway returned to the starting line-up.
The hosts kicked proceedings off with the Jags in their usual formation with Logan in place on the left of their defence and Stanway deployed in midfield.
Logan Chalmers, who had tried an extravagant pass out to Aidan Fitzpatrick moments earlier, won the game’s first corner on four minutes however Calum Ferrie in the home goal clutched the resultant dead ball.
The Queen’s keeper kicked away quickly and set up a break that earned a corner at the other end which Henry Fieldson glanced over the Thistle bar.
On seven minutes Watt nodded a pass right and that allowed Logan Chalmers, Ts’oanelo Lets’osa and Ben McPherson to skip forward. The initial thrust was repelled however Chalmers gathered the ball again on the right from McPherson and sent over a curling cross that was perfect for WATT to head home from 8 yards despite Ferrie’s best efforts.
Seven minutes later a delightful move that started with a quick pass from Josh Clarke to Logan and involved a run forward and a delightful dummy from Lets’osa gave Chalmers a glimpse of goal with his net bound curling effort deflected wide by a despairing defensive leg.
Fitzpatrick was soon felled as he darted forward 40 yards from home goal and the wide-man’s free-kick was met by Lee Ashcroft with his header flashing just past.
Midway through the half Watt nutmegged Matthew Shiels 25 yards out with the Spiders defender fouling the striker as he tried to skip past him to earn a booking. Dan O’Reilly’s free-kick was blocked by the defensive wall with Watt unable to turn in Chalmers’ resultant cross at the back post.
Thirteen minutes from the break Logan combined with Watt to win a corner on the left that was flicked back towards goal by O’Reilly however there was no-one in Red and Yellow to turn the ball in.
Watt showed great defensive qualities in 34 minutes when he rose under pressure to nod away a dangerous Aidan Connolly free-kick that was awarded after Logan picked up a yellow card.
After a trip on Stanway had gone unnoticed Chalmers was unluckily penalised five minutes later to give Queen’s Park a shooting chance with McPherson using his head to block Tyrece McDonnell’s drive.
As the game entered injury time a backheel from Chalmers kicked off a period of pressure in the home box however Watt could not force his second of the evening.

Logan was withdrawn at the break with Kyle Turner coming on and this move saw McPherson switch to the left.
The second half got going when Chalmers and Lets’osa combined on the right with midfielder Lets’osa low drilled cross finding no takers.
With 51 minutes played McPherson charged forward and picked out Watt with an outside of the foot pass however a corner was the only reward.
A minute later another forward move on the left took the ball to the home 18-yard line where it was fed to Lets’osa who sent an angled drive inches past.
A Queen’s break threatened danger on 56 minutes with O’Reilly moving smartly to block Josh Fowler’s powerful 18-yard drive.
On 68 minutes Lets’osa came close for a second time after substitute Alex Samuel had slipped a pass to Watt who teed up the number 64 to send in an effort that Ferrie grabbed at the second attempt.
After a free-kick was awarded with three Thistle players lying on the ground Turner passed right for Lets’osa who picked out Samuel with a cross that was met by the head of Samuel however Ferrie was not overly troubled.
Seb Drozd gave a reminder to the visitors that their lead was a slender one when he whipped in a free-kick after he had been fouled by O’Reilly with Clarke watching it carefully as it cleared his bar.
There were loud Thistle appeals for a penalty on 84 minutes when Samuel looked to be bundled over as he tried to get on the end of a Turner free-kick however referee Turner did not blow his whistle.
With two minutes left it looked like two for the Jags when McPherson left Charlie Fox in his wake and crossed low from the left. Samuel flicked onto Watt who hit a first time left foot shot only for Ferrie to drop to his right and save.
Despite four minutes of added on time that included a dangerous free-kick that Clarke rose and collected Thistle headed back west with the three points.
