Not just once but twice, Danny Lennon managed to get his hands on silverware as the Thistle skipper as Thistle won successive league titles in the early 2000s.

When Danny signed up as a Partick Thistle player, he had already enjoyed a lengthy, successful career and he was brought in by John Lambie to spearhead the challenge for promotion out of the Second Division.

Signing in December 1999, Danny had to be content with a mid-table finish at the end of the campaign, but the signs were bright that success was just around the corner. And so it would prove as season 2000/01 was very successful indeed as the side cruised to the Second Division title winning the title by a whopping margin of 17 points.

The side went unbeaten on league business from mid-October until mid-February, opening up a gap that would never e close. When Danny was presented with the trophy at the last home game of the season, few Jags fans would have imagined he would be doing the exact same thing almost 12 months later.

The First Division title was a hard fought battle against Airdrieonians, with Thistle coming out on top in the end with a ten point winning cushion. Lennon raised the trophy to a packed Firhill crowd signalling Thistle’s return to the big time with back to back titles. As captain, Danny Lennon proved to be a driving and influential leader on the pitch.
