There is no need to delve into the recesses of one’s memory to recall this recent match, which took place at Rugby Park less than a year ago. This was vintage Partick Thistle, who gave a great performance and capped it all with goals galore. The prolific Kris Doolan had us two up within the first fifteen minutes with his 3rd and 4th goals against the same opposition, having scored twice in the 2-2 draw at Firhill back in August. Kilmarnock pulled one back through Josh Magennis, the Irish international, after 23 minutes and the score remained at 2-1 until the half-time interval.

The thought plagued our minds that the home side may stage a second-half come-back, but those in the large travelling support need not have worried. Thistle went to town in the second-half, making their intentions crystal clear with a Gary Fraser goal after 52 minutes. The best was yet to come. Ten minutes later Robbie scored a real belter. What a strike! Top corner, keeper no chance. I know that earlier in the season Stevie Lawless and Gary Miller scored wonderful goals against St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park, but Robbie Muirhead’s effort could also have been in contention for “goal of the season”.

So Thistle led 4-1, but Kilmarnock threatened briefly in 72 minutes with a Connolly goal. What would happen now? Well, Robbie Muirhead provided the answer three minutes later with another super strike, low this time beyond the despairing ‘keeper.

Five goals away from home! It was a great run back up the M77 to Glasgow. The full team which put up such a great show was as follows: – Ryan Scully, Dan Seaborne, Stuart Bannigan, Callum Booth, Abdul Osman, Robbie Muirhead, Gary Fraser, Stevie Lawless, Mustapha Dumbuya, Liam Lindsay and Kris Doolan.
