A message from the Partick Thistle 150th Anniversary Working Group

Partick Thistle played their first ever game on February 19 th 1876, a narrow 1-0 win over a local team calling themselves Valencia. Next year, as you’ll probably be aware, will be the club’s 150 th anniversary. In early June, the first meeting of the 150th Anniversary Working Group took place, with the aim of organising a series of events which will allow fans to celebrate this memorable milestone and commemorate the long life of this wonderful club. And while we’re not in a position to confirm everything yet, there are great things coming down the line. 2026 will be a great year to be a Thistle supporter.

The group is very aware of the importance of keeping supporters regularly informed of progress and are committed to monthly updates through official sources. We understand that fans will be keen to get involved in events next year and so progress will be shared regularly through the programme and official website. We are also aware that fans will have their own ideas of what they’d like to see in 2026 – and how they’d like to contribute – and a forum has been set up to accommodate those ideas. You’ll find the e-mail address at the end of the page.

The flagship event will be an Anniversary Lunch in the fantastic Radisson Blu Hotel in Central Glasgow. The event will take place on the afternoon of Sunday March 1st, the closest possible date to the anniversary of the first game in our history. The date was chosen to allow the inclusion of all the current teams, players and officials.

Early plans suggest that it will be an unforgettable event. Great entertainment, alongside former players from many eras, comedy, music as well as fantastic food and some Thistle history along the way. We are working to make this event accessible to more fans and the ticket price should reflect that. As soon as we can confirm the details, we will let everyone know.

There is also a planned anniversary match at Firhill. It is hoped that the game will take place next July, during pre-season, against a top team. We hope you understand that plans for this are in the early stages, and nothing can be confirmed yet, but should involve lots of guests and surprises. While this game will take place during pre-season, we understand that many people go on holiday in July but, due to the playing schedule during the season, this would be the most suitable time for the game.

Also under consideration throughout the year are other events at various times. It is hoped that there will be a Golf Day at a local course, open to all, where you can play against current and former players, or be involved in the administration on the day. These events have proven to be very popular in the past and an informal way to get to know some of your heroes. Also, a more informal evening which will take place within Firhill, with dinner and special guests throughout. This could be an alternative for anyone who can’t make it along to the more formal lunch in March. We hope this provides options for everyone to take part in the celebrations.

One of the first discussions we had as a group was about the necessity for allowing supporters to have their say in what is such an important year. We are aware that there will be many great ideas out there on how Partick Thistle’s 150 year anniversary can be the most memorable year for everyone. All groups connected to the club. – groups of fans, Her Game Too, the Jags Foundation, the Memorabilia and Heritage Group, the Thistle Trust, Jags for Good, the Disabled Supporters Association, Proud Jags, the Charitable Trust, the Ultras Thistle and the Nomads – have been invited to contribute to the discussion as we want to involve as many fans as possible. There will also be a way for individual supporters to get involved and offer their ideas.

So, look out for confirmation of dates, as well as many other exciting ventures. The group is already meeting regularly and, as stated earlier, there will be a monthly update on progress on the Club website and in the Programme. We are very excited about 2026. We know you will be too.

If you have any suggestions, or any questions, please get in touch at   . We will discuss all contributions at our regular meetings and every email will receive a response.
