Amongst the happy home support at Saturday’s 3-0 win over Arbroath were delighted a contingent from the Borders who travelled to Firhill to mark a very special occasion.
The group of Denholm Primary pupils from Teviotdale, near Hawick, found themselves in the Jackie Husband Stand thanks to lifelong supporter and Maryhill boy, Dave Halfpenny, with the day out arranged to mark his retirement as janitor at the school.
And it looks like Thistle have secured the support of a good few more followers after the youngsters – and Mr Halfpenny! – enjoyed a day out to remember, including a stadium tour, meeting defender Kevin Holt and CEO Gerry Britton and, of course, topped off with a victory.
In the school’s words: “We are all still buzzing from Saturday! What a fantastic day – we’ve had loads of lovely messages from parents saying how much the kids had enjoyed it. Some of them said it was the best day of their wee lives!
“What a special memory for these kids to treasure. The fact we witnessed a victory and three goals live was the icing on the cake. Partick Thistle is a truly special club and as of yesterday, has a whole new cohort of fans down in the Borders!”
Everyone at Partick Thistle wishes Mr Halfpenny a very happy retirement and we all, Kingsley especially, look forward to seeing the Denholm Primary Partick Thistle Supporters Club back at Firhill very soon.
