Aaron Muirhead triggers contract extension

Partick Thistle Football Club is pleased to announce that Aaron Muirhead has triggered an appearance-based contract extension with the club which will now keep him at Firhill for the duration of the 2024/25 season, subject to Scottish FA clearance.

The Jags’ vice-captain was a key member of Kris Doolan’s rearguard over the course of the 2023/24 campaign, featuring in 47 of the team’s 49 matches and contributing to 11 clean sheets including five in his final six appearances of the cinch Championship season.

Currently enjoying a second spell in Maryhill, Aaron surpassed 150 appearances for the club during the team’s recent league draw against Raith Rovers becoming the fourth active member of the men’s first team squad to reach the milestone.

A leading voice in the Thistle dressing room, Muirhead will now be returning for the new season in red and yellow.

Thistle manager Kris Doolan said:

“Aaron has been such an important player for me since I’ve become manager. I think he’s been a bit of an unsung hero at times because he has to do the dirty work which can go unnoticed.

“We improved hugely at the back around about March time and he played a big part in that. Brian Graham is our captain who leads from the front but we’ve also got Aaron offering a voice at the back and I think that dynamic works well.

“It’s pretty well-known that he’s been playing through injury for a while now so it’s a credit to him that’s he found a way to be available and still put in some great displays despite that. Hopefully he can make full use of the time off we’ve got now and come back for pre-season as strong as ever.”

A full squad update outlining those contracted for season 2024/25, those still in talks with the club, those returning to their parent clubs and those leaving the club, will be communicated imminently in a separate update.
