Academy trio sign modern apprenticeships

The club is pleased to confirm the signing of three new modern apprentices who are making the step up from the Thistle Weir Youth Academy.

Jamie Taggart, Sallu Turay and Ricco Diack have all signed two-year modern apprenticeships having joined the first team for pre-season training this summer. Ricco has already made his first team debut for the club, coming off the bench against Hamilton back in January while Jamie and Sallu both featured in last week’s friendly against Kelty Hearts.

Everyone at Firhill would like to welcome Jamie, Sallu and Ricco to the club and wish them the best of luck for the season ahead.

Thistle manager Kris Doolan said:

“I’m really happy that Jamie, Sallu and Ricco are making the step up from the academy. I’ve spoken a lot about there being that pathway for young players here at Thistle and this is an example of that pathway in action.

“The guys have had the chance to train regularly with the first team this summer and hopefully that gives them the hunger to go and push on and become regular first team players here at Partick Thistle. It will take a lot of work but I’m excited to see how they develop.”

Thistle Weir Youth Academy director Paul McDonald said:

“It’s always a proud moment for the Academy to see players progressing into the first team and we’d like to congratulate Jamie, Sallu and Ricco on signing their modern apprenticeships.

“The Academy representation in the first team squad is fantastic to see with Aidan Fitzpatrick signing a new deal this summer, James Lyon and Mason McCready signing their first full-time contracts and now three new modern apprentices joining the ranks.

“The chance to continue to train on a daily basis with the senior squad can only help these young players to develop and I’m looking forward to seeing what they can contribute to the team over the next couple of years.”
