Adam Barton signs three year deal

This evening manager Alan Archibald has made a deadline day deal to add a new player to his squad.

Adam Barton, subject to international clearance, joins the club from Portsmouth on a three year contract for an undisclosed fee. The former Portsmouth player is comfortable as both a central defender and defensive midfielder.

Adam began his professional career with Preston North End, spending time on loan with Crawley Town in 2009 before making his full debut for Preston in April 2010. During his time at Deepdale he made his only appearance for Northern Ireland playing the full 90 minutes in a 1-1 friendly draw with Morocco. An injury in February 2012 ruled him out for the rest of the campaign and in August 2012 he moved to Coventry City on a three year contract.

He made over 60 appearances for the League One side, while also spending a short spell at the end of the 2013/14 season on loan with Fleetwood Town.

In the summer of 2015 Adam signed a two year contract with Portsmouth making 21 appearances for the club last season as they lost out to Plymouth Argyle in the playoffs.

Adam was part of the Portsmouth side which defeated Colchester United on League Two duty at the weekend and played the full 90 minutes last night in a 4-3 defeat to Yeovil Town.
