There were only three games during April for Partick Thistle Women’s FC but you could have hardly have picked three more difficult fixture for the Jags to contend with as the post-split schedule rumbles on.
Three defeats will go on Thistle’s record for the past month but that doesn’t tell the full story of the commitment and determination showed by a part-time side who played the country’s top trio of teams in the space of eight days.
An excellent second half display against Glasgow City was followed by an impressive performance over 90 minutes against Rangers with the away side relying on goals in the 85th and 88th minutes to pick up a 3-1 victory.
With a break from the competitive football this weekend, it’s time to make your pick for the Adapt Commercial Property April Player of the Month:
Clare Docherty
One of Thistle’s most influential personalities in the dressing room, Clare Docherty’s importance to this team was also on show for all to see during April. Last-ditch tackles and goal-saving blocks were needed at times when the team came under spells of pressure and furthermore her introduction as a substitute at half-time against Glasgow City made an obvious impact on Brian Graham’s Jags as they produced a much-improved display after the break.
Rachel Donaldson
A vital cog in Thistle’s attack, Rachel Donaldson could be spotted left, right and centre during April. It was Rachel’s long ball forward which brought about the error from Victoria Esson in the Rangers goal and led to the Jags’ equaliser. That assist takes her to 10 goal involvements for the season – Cara Henderson is the only player at the club with more.
Rebecca McAllister
January signing Rebecca McAllister has settled very nicely at Petershill Park and has made herself a regular in Brian Graham’s team after just three months at the club. Starting two of the three games during April and coming off the bench at half-time in the other, McAllister’s work-rate and use of the ball stood out as she went toe-to-toe with some of the best midfielders playing in Scotland.
Linzi Taylor
With Demi Falconer missing the first two games of the month, Thistle had to adapt to life without their captain and Linzi Taylor was crucial to that. Ordinarily a midfielder, Taylor slotted into central defence for all three games playing alongside four different players at various times including the aforementioned Falconer who made her return to the team against Rangers.
