Partick Thistle FC can today confirm that Anton Dowds has joined Ayr United on a season-long loan deal, subject to Scottish FA approval.
The 26-year-old joined the club last year from Falkirk on a pre-contract agreement, making his Jags debut in a 2-0 home victory over Fraserburgh in the Premier Sports Cup.
He bagged his first goal for the club the following month against Queen’s Park at Ochilview before scoring at Firhill for the first time in his next appearance, against Inverness. The striker ended the 2022/23 campaign with seven goals in 35 appearances.
Dowds has featured in four games for the club so far this term but now heads out on loan to Somerset Park.
Thistle manager Kris Doolan said:
“Anton came to me recently to discuss the possibility of a loan move because he wants to be playing football which I can totally respect.
“His attitude has been first class since I’ve come in and he’s a great professional but with Brian, Tomi, Scott Robinson and Ricco Diack all fighting for the same spot as Anton, there was no guarantee he’d get minutes on the pitch so I think this solution is one which suits all parties.”
