Bannigan looking to get back to winning ways

Following a defeat last weekend at the hands of Greenock Morton, Partick Thistle return to Firhill with hopes of regaining momentum in a cinch Championship clash against Hamilton Accies. Thistle midfielder Stuart Bannigan sat down with ptfc.co.uk to look ahead to Saturday’s important match.

“We’re looking forward to try and make amends for the defeat we got against Morton, we’re disappointed off the back of the two wins the previous week as well, we were hoping to make it three but it wasn’t to be. We know we need to get back on track on Saturday and try to get a win.”

Thistle’s unbeaten run ended at four games and Stuart was disappointed to end an encouraging run of results in such fashion.

“It was disappointing because we were in front for so long, we didn’t realise until we came off that it was so late that they scored. We were disappointed with it because we felt with a win on Saturday we would have still been right in there, but it is what it is and we need to move on now.”

After a heavy run with constant midweek fixtures, Thistle have had a week to prepare for the tomorrow’s match with Bannigan feeling like the rest could help the team.

“It will be beneficial in terms of rest but I think the players have handled the run pretty well. We’ve had seven games in March and as players the constant games are good because we want to be playing games, we don’t want to be training all the time. This week we’ve had a full week of training and that little bit of rest so we should be raring to go on Saturday afternoon.

Thistle are unbeaten against Hamilton this season with two wins and a draw. The Lanarkshire side have picked up form in the second half of the season and the Jags number eight knows that will result in a tough battle.

“There’s always caution, it’s a tough game. The last time we played them out at their place it was a 2-2 draw so we know it’s going to be difficult, even the game here last time it was only a one-nil so we’re under no illusion that it is going to be a difficult game. In this league everyone has something to play for and that gets taken in to each game. It’s going to be tough and they’ll come here looking for a battle and we have to try and win it.”

The final quarter is well underway now, with only eight games remaining and Bannigan knows we’ll have to pick up maximum points quickly, if we are still to climb the table.

“We’ve got to be motivated to get up as high as you can. There’s enough games left to try and keep pushing, we’ve still got Arbroath and Kilmarnock to play so you never know but all we can do is keep pushing and try get as many points on the board as possible and we’ll see where we end up.”
