Bannigan: No doubts about putting it on my shoulders

Stuart Bannigan admits he was always putting the second penalty on his shoulders after seeing his first penalty by Jamie MacDonald

Bannigan, who was captaining the side with Tam O’Ware out with illness, missed a second half penalty before scoring one only a couple of minutes later and he never had any doubt in his mind he was taking it.

Speaking to ptfc.co.uk he said: “I was always going to take the second penalty; you want to rectify things after the first one. You are still disappointed after missing it, it’s not a nice feeling to miss one, especially how the game went and how important it was. The second one came three minutes later, and you have the chance to put things right, so I’m delighted it went in.

“There was no doubt in my mind that I was taking it. Alex and Joe had said they would take it, but I was putting it on my shoulders. If I had missed it would have been devastating weekend for me, but you have to have bottle in these situations. There was no way I wasn’t going to step up.”

The Jags number 8 says the players were disappointed not to have taken all three points from the match against Alloa.

The Jags had to settle for a 1-1 draw despite a second half onslaught with Alloa keeper Jamie MacDonald producing a string of good saves to deny the Jags.

“We’re disappointed not to take all three points. The first goal is always going to be a big one in a game like this and we’ve been a bit unlucky with how it came about with the deflection.

“I thought we were the better side; we maybe didn’t create enough clear-cut chances in the first half, but we’ve had a lot of chances second half and just couldn’t take advantage.”

The midfielder feels the team need to start making the most of the opportunities created

“When you miss the penalty, you think it’s just not going to be your day, we’ve thrown everything at them and just couldn’t get the second goal.

“It’s a frustrating one, the keeper pulls off quite a few good saves, we’ve had some good crosses into the box, Ryan Williamson has put five or six great balls into the box but we’ve not taken advantage so that is something we need to work on, getting bodies in the box to get on the end of them.

“A win could have really got us looking up, but we haven’t lost and that’s four points from two away games, so we take that and look forward now to a home match next weekend.”
