Ben Stanway joins Airdrieonians on loan

Partick Thistle FC can today confirm that Thistle Weir Youth Academy graduate Ben Stanway has joined cinch League One side Airdrieonians on loan until the end of the season, subject to Scottish FA approval.

The 18-year-old midfielder has been training with the Thistle first team for the better part of 18 months but now makes the temporary switch to join the Diamonds in search of more regular senior football.

Stanway has made a handful of appearances as a Jag, debuting in a 2-0 SPFL Trust Trophy win over Stranraer last season before going on to make his league debut against Hamilton at Firhill. He’s made three further appearances this season, all as a substitute.

He joins Rhys McCabe’s side with Airdrieonians sat in fourth position in League One and we wish Ben all the best for the rest of the season.

Thistle manager Ian McCall said:

“This is a good opportunity for Ben to go and test himself at an extremely competitive level with a team who are fighting at the top end of the table. It’s never easy to go and make an impact on loan but Ben’s got the right attitude so hopefully we’ll see him getting plenty of time on the pitch for the rest of the season.

“Although he only turned 18 in September, Ben’s a player who we feel has the ability to feature at first team level just now. The unfortunate thing for him this season has been that we’ve got so much competition in the middle of the park that opportunities have been limited.”

“Now he has the chance to go and get that game time elsewhere and hopefully that helps his development because we see him as a future first team regular here at Firhill.”
