Ben Stanway signs contract extension with the Jags

Partick Thistle FC is excited to announce that Ben Stanway has signed a contract extension with the club until 2026.

The midfielder follows in the footsteps of fellow Thistle Weir Youth Academy graduates Aidan Fitzpatrick and Zander MacKenzie by committing his long-term future to the Jags.

Ben has been involved with the Thistle first team for a couple of seasons now having signed his modern apprenticeship with the club in January of last year. At that point he had already made his senior debut, coming on as a late substitute in an SPFL Trust Trophy match against Stranraer.

After a handful of further appearances, he went out on loan in search of more regular minutes joining Airdrieonians in cinch League 1. He featured 18 times in half a season for the Diamonds scoring one goal and helping them achieve promotion through the play-offs.

Returning to Maryhill, Ben has featured in eight of our opening 10 games including six starts. Playing a key role in wins over Dundee United, Queen’s Park and Greenock Morton, Stanway has also bagged his first Jags goal – a header in our SPFL Trust Trophy tie against Queen of the South this past weekend.

Thistle manager Kris Doolan said:

“I’m really happy with the way Ben has started the season. Whenever he’s been given the chance to play, he’s shown a maturity that most players his age don’t have. As a player, he has a bit of everything – he tackles and he presses but he also uses the ball well and gets into some great positions.

“I spoke during pre-season about wanting to see what our young guys are capable of and we’ve already had big contributions from Ben as well as Zander MacKenzie and James Lyon so that’s great to see. Hopefully there’s plenty more to come from all of them.”
