Everyone connected with Partick Thistle Football Club was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our former manager, Billy Lamont.
Billy was appointed Thistle manager towards the end of the 1986-87 season, succeeding Derek Johnstone and earning back-to-back wins in his opening two games.
He was in charge for the duration of season 1987-88, when the Jags finished eighth in the old First Division, also embarking on a run to the fifth round of the Scottish Cup before losing to Celtic at a packed Firhill. Billy would leave the club in October of the following season, with Bobby Watson taking over on a temporary basis before John Lambie’s arrival.
During his managerial career Billy Lamont won promotion with East Stirlingshire, Falkirk and Dumbarton, also managing Hamilton Accies and Alloa Athletic.
The thoughts of everyone at Partick Thistle FC are with Billy’s family and friends at this terribly sad time.
