Partick Thistle FC can officially confirm that Blair Alston has departed the club.
Following a discussion with Blair immediately after the end of the 2023/24 season the door was left open for potential further talks during the summer but both parties have now moved on.
Alston joined the club last July after leaving Kilmarnock and made his debut on the day he signed, in a 2-1 Premier Sports Cup group stage win over Spartans at the Wyre Stadium at Firhill.
The midfielder’s season came to life in November when he scored a brilliant winner against Morton at home having come on as a half-time substitute with the scores tied at 1-1.
He would go on to start the team’s next game, a Scottish Cup tie against Queen’s Park, opening the scoring with another special strike which would go on to win the competition’s Goal of the Round award.
Blair found the back of the net again in a 4-3 defeat to Raith Rovers in December and, as it turned out, that was just a taste of what he was going to do later against the Kirkcaldy side.
With Thistle trailing Rovers 2-0 in the home leg of the Premiership play-off semi-finals Alston was sent on to help the Jags find a route back into the tie and within 90 seconds of his introduction he was on the scoresheet.
As such, Kris Doolan’s side travelled to Fife with a one-goal deficit to overcome which they managed to do, largely thanks to a first half double from Alston, before ultimately losing on penalties.
Thistle boss Kris Doolan said:
“In his season here with us at Partick Thistle, Blair was a top professional, a terrific person and a player who came up with some really big moments for us at key times.
“He had to be patient a lot of the time which I know can be very frustrating, but he never let that spill over or affect his performances on the pitch. The way he came on and contributed in the play-off games against Raith Rovers speaks to his attitude as well as his ability.
“I’m sure I speak on behalf of everyone at the club when I thank Blair for his considerable contributions last season wish Blair and his family all the very best for the future.”
