Bobby Briggs – A tribute

When Partick Thistle faced a financial crisis in 1997 a ‘Save the Jags’ campaign came to their rescue, and not only kept the lights on, but laid the foundations for the club to still be the Pride of Maryhill nearly 30 years later.
Whilst thousands of people rallied round to ‘Save the Jags’, four men Bobby Briggs, Allan Cowan, Michael Max and Robert Reid were recognised as leading the campaign.
Bobby passed away on Friday aged 83 and Partick Thistle are pleased to publish this tribute to him that has been written by Michael and approved by the family.

“Bobby Briggs was a long-time fan and worker at the club in both volunteer and full-time member of staff positions. He started out working on the lotto doing collections before becoming the lottery manager where he excelled over many years.”
“However I will best remember him during Save the Jags where everyone put their heart and soul into rescuing the club we love from a position of great peril, doing it without complaint and no lack of energy and for that we should all be eternally grateful.”
“When I say without complaint, I will make an exception for Bobby as he did like a moan, on occasion, but this was only because he cared so much and it kind of made him the man that he was.”
“He was very much admired by so many. He also loved his snooker, a top Scottish amateur snooker referee too. He had many strings to his bow and I, for one, will miss him and extend nothing but love to all his family who have grown up in the Thistle tradition just as Bobby would have wanted.”
“You could not help but like and admire the true Jags man that Bobby Briggs was.”
