The board of Partick Thistle FC are proud to announce that former scout Bobby Dinnie MBE is to be inducted into the club’s Hall of Fame with immediate effect.
Bobby served as chief scout for the club for decades under the management of many, perhaps most notably during the John Lambie era, using his links to Possil YM, where Bobby had helped the club establish a reputation as a hotbed of young Scottish footballing talent.
His work for Partick Thistle is well known by older fans but as an indication of his eye for a player he was instrumental in the recruitment of Kenny Arthur, Alan Archibald, Kris Doolan and Chris Erskine – all of whom were so successful they too are in the Thistle Hall of Fame. He is also credited with the early breakthrough of the ‘other’ goalscorer in the famous 1971 Scottish League Cup Final, a certain Kenny Dalglish.
Bobby’s induction to the Partick Thistle Hall of Fame is announced with the blessing of his family, at a time when Bobby is suffering from illness. His picture will be installed on the ‘Wall of Fame’ at the staircase of the hospitality entrance of the Jackie Husband Stand as soon as possible and the club will publish an update including photograph as soon as this is in place.
Although the induction into the Partick Thistle Hall of Fame is with immediate effect, this will be celebrated at the next Hall of Fame dinner, the date of which will be confirmed in due course.
Serving as head commissionaire at Strathclyde Police headquarters in Pitt Street, in 1997 Bobby received an MBE for his services to the community and to the police in Glasgow.
We are proud to provide further, richly deserved recognition by adding Bobby’s name to the Partick Thistle Hall of Fame at the age of 91 and we hope this brings Bobby and his family great pride too.
