Booth: Great to be back

It has been a frustrating summer and pre-season for Thistle left back, Callum Booth, which made the 45 minutes he got against Morton all the more satisfying. PTFC.co.uk caught up with Callum after full time to talk about his return to action.

It was really good to get back out there as I haven’t played in about 10 weeks and getting some minutes on the pitch at this time of year is so important. It was good to get the win but for me it was all about improving my fitness and getting my sharpness back ahead of the return to competitive action next week.

“I was really pleased actually because everything felt absolutely fine with my foot. I’ve been training hard with the physio and I’ve been back training with the boys for a few days now so my fitness doesn’t feel too bad and I should be back to 100% after a game or two.”

Despite the long layoff, Callum admits that his style of play hasn’t changed.

“I was right back in there getting up and down but I don’t think I know any other way to play to be honest! That’s the way we play and I was really pleased to be linking up so well with Lawless and Erskine – I think we’ll have a great understanding this season.

“I’m now just desperate to get back playing more games. It feels like months and months since I last played but I guess if you’re going to get injured that’s the time to do it. I’m ahead of schedule though and delighted to be back – the games can’t come quick enough for me now.”

After a slow game against Raith on Tuesday night the tempo at Cappielow was much higher, something Callum thinks will set the side up well for the season.

“I thought we put some really good moves together and passed the ball very well. The link up play was terrific at times. I only played 45 minutes today but I thought we played some really nice stuff at a good tempo during that time. It was a really good work out and now we can focus on preparing for the start of the Betfred Cup on Friday.”
